This particular brown dwarf’s mass, however, is just at the threshold between being a Jupiter-like #planet and a brown dwarf. It has thus also been called a free-floating, or rogue, planet, not bound to a #star

Last images of the morning from both telescopes. Aimed them to the #planet #Jupiter. This first image is by the Odyssey Pro and the second from the s50. Though you can see Jupiter clearly on the first image none of the moons are visible. In thebs50 image Jupiter is to bright, but you can clearly see its moons #Ganymede (to the left) and #Callisto (to the right). #unistellar #odyssey pro #space #astronomy #amateur #seestar #S50
The whole "grumbling about #Pluto not being a #planet" anymore discourse bugs me, because it was not really a demotion, it was the inspiration for and promotion into a special class which elevates many other celestial bodies, especially including #Ceres, which is Very Cool and Not So Far https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceres_(dwarf_planet)
Astronomers found an #atmosphere where they least expected it—clinging to an #exoplanet that’s too small, too hot and too old to have air, at least in theory.
Observations of the blazing-hot lava #planet TOI-561 b suggest not only that it has a thick atmosphere but also that it may have had one for billions of years.
This is the strongest evidence yet for "air" around a hot rocky world that isn’t just a temporary veil of #hydrogen and #helium left over from planetary formation.

While #nuclearenergy is not #fossil it not #green at all - but #colonial , #deadly & totally unfair because, like in AI, the #profits are being privatised, the costs are hitting the whole #society & the #planet
But from the point of view of someone believing in #cybernetics or one of its #TESCREAL grandchildren it is great - because in cybernetics EVERY problem will be solved in "the future" by "technology"
Google's emissions are up over 50%, Amazon builds huge data centers powered by 75% natural gas.
Remember all those posts telling us that "AIs climate impact isn't that bad" supported by some really funky math/perspective and/or numbers Sam Altman invented?
Here's the actual impact.
"AI" is a fossil fuel technology.

It is so obvious that the forced stoppage of support for #Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 has everything to do with forcing people to buy new hardware, and nothing with the technical possibilities of #Microsoft to produce a good working operating system that works on a wide scale of different performing hardware.
I have a still well functioning laptop that will soon have an OS that is not supported anymore. This is truly ridiculous and renders good functioning laptop useless. Yes I know I can put #Linux on it, and I will. But it is for work-purposes a step back as the stability and availability of software is different.
It has all the vibes of cartelisation, central software/OS-producers with hardware industry, pushing people to buy new hardware.
#Capitalism destroys the environment and forces us to use the resources of our #planet in an inefficient and destructive manner. We need a fundamentally different economy and tech-sector. Here is a draft for a couple of pillars of such a tech-sector: https://kolektiva.social/@LibSpring/114002923715678754
