Can anyone recommend some relatively affordable managed #Mastodon hosting?
We've been with the absolutely fantastic Masto.host since starting Writing.Exchange in 2017, but it's become prohibitively expensive -- especially for a community of only ~250 active users, as our hosting costs are about to increase another $50 to $589/month this month.

If McConnell comes back from the dead it'll be the greatest advertisement for the miracles of publically funded healthcare one could ask for.
Mitch McConnell hasn’t been seen or heard from in 25 days in the hospital.
Yet he still has a job, is still getting paid, and is getting unlimited world class healthcare.
The man who voted against a living wage, against universal healthcare, and against guaranteed paid leave, is now getting all three when he needs it most. Every person deserves the human dignity McConnell is getting on the taxpayer dime. Anything less is shameless cruel hypocrisy.

In 2018, I wore a t-shirt to ShmooCon that said "Don't rape" on the front and "Don't support rapists" on the back. I didn't expect that I would get quite so much wear out of this shirt over the years.
@idzie wild though, I have learned many of my coworkers are capable of masking!! Incredible how their lungs have changed from "I can't breathe in that so you need to deal with my coughing" to "it hurts to go outside without my n95"

I've been asked by many why I don't become a politician.
My answer is basically - Why would I enter a corrupt system, knowing it can't be reformed from the inside & where caucus power outweighs/ostracizes any 'goodness' any well intentioned new politician may have entered with.
Why would I try to contribute to a overly broken FPTP corrupt electoral system? I'd be very delusional if I did believe change can happen inside fully corrupted government systems.

I've been reflecting on similar things with my drawing: being ready to draw human figures through practice with drawing other forms first. (It's all shapes and light, when it comes down to it.)

Humans *make meaning*, and nowhere is that so evident as in the stories we tell. LLM-produced "stories" don't deserve the name. They're empty piles of "statistically this word is common in our stolen 'training' material", with no theory, no actual meaning or burning desire to communicate.

@idzie Agreed! I’m always a little surprised that Merlin doesn’t do well with young birds. I’ve gotten adept at phoebe and titmouse calls and they generally always sound the same. My general rule is if it’s “SSS” then it’s a baby. 🤭
