I feel like gulls are great for practising birds in flight shots. They're common, generally unbothered by human presence, relatively large and slow moving, with sedate and predictable flight paths. I'd never have been able to get tern shots I'm happy with this summer if I hadn't spent time photographing gulls last year!
@idzie this is really interesting! About being ready to photograph terns because of your experiences with photographing gulls.
I've been reflecting on similar things with my drawing: being ready to draw human figures through practice with drawing other forms first. (It's all shapes and light, when it comes down to it.)
@calendsofapril yes!! So many skills are transferable
They're also just fun birds, and fun to photograph in their own right.
