Milo "ICE checkpoints at supermarket entrances, gas stations, strip malls, intersections, and government buildings with on-the-spot deportation of anyone unable to prove they were legally in the United States." Yiannopoulos has been busted by ICE. The really odd sound you hear is me cackling like a manic.

@sjvn How ironic. A news story about that guy and ICE. And it's good news.
I suspect that this week's #neovim kerfuffle was just a wee appetizer.
A small, bold dish of discourse to whet the appetite if you will.
The main course promises to be a spicy mélange of brouhaha, balderdash, and ballyhoo featuring the results of today's #Debian vote on #AI usage in the project.
Bon Appétit!
>Debian neither endorses nor prohibits the use of generative AI tools in the development, maintenance, or documentation of software, packaging, documentation, and other media published within the Debian Project.
Seems like they changed tone now. and turn neutral.

Instead of fixing the incredibly bad UI, developers going off on an adventure to implement a feature no one wants—it’s a story as old as time with software (doesn’t matter if commercial or open source and free).
I've just read that Dolly Parton, in addition to the 3000-odd songs she wrote that we know about, also has a whole unreleased back catalogue of material she intended to be released posthumously to keep her estate funded, so her philanthropic work could continue after her death.
It's often said that James Brown was the hardest working man in the music industry. Well, I think Dolly must have been the hardest working woman.
Everyone reading this will be dead when Dolly stops releasing new music!

Your media is on pillaging. So is Canada's media. Go listen to Carney's speech again - the man did not choose his words without caution. He said it was an attack, he said it was a war, he said Canada's existence was under threat and he even told you it was intentional - when you "write an agreement in pencil" it's because you INTEND to change it later. This isn't him saying "Americans don't keep promises" - he told his country we're out to eat Canada directly.
Your media lying to you

@thomasfuchs value of this update aside, I think Calibre has one of the best UIs of any modern software! It's incredible no-frills and functional - easy to use the basic features, massively powerful if you want to dig in?
I'm sick of software constantly updating the interface to justify designers and developers' existence, and I'm ESPECIALLY sick of minimalist design.
I accept tastes may vary, but I would absolutely not want any changes to the Calibre UI.

@bastardsheep @mattrobertson you can turn them off and not worry about it anymore. I really don’t give a fuck about thousands of robots screaming at me anymore.
@jpm @mattrobertson That’s what I do for apps that use them for unimportant reasons IDGAF about. But we’re talking other people’s phones here, I don’t have authority to change their settings.

Argentina Makes AI Surveillance the Newest Battlefield for Personal Privacy
"Under President Javier Milei, Argentina spent $1.2 million between 2024 and 2025 on surveillance technologies, according to Amnesty. The purchases included social-media monitoring platforms, facial-recognition systems, drones, ground stations, thermal cameras and tools transmitting images in real time. Some sweep social networks, websites, the dark web and public databases, assembling information at a scale no human team could match.
Amnesty based its report on 21 interviews with journalists, activists, pensioners, young people and human-rights defenders, plus procurement documents and information requests. The alarming finding was behavioral. Some journalists, activists and migrants said they had begun censoring themselves or reducing their presence at demonstrations because they feared identification.
Surveillance concentrates where authorities already expect disorder. Those locations generate more records, which justify more monitoring. Migrants, protesters and marginalized communities become overrepresented in the data, not necessarily because they offend more, but because the state watches them more closely."
