Listen to the tears rolling down my face as she turns to go....
the advice i needed was never “live every day as if it was your last”. it was “live every day as if you had to live for another 50 years” that would have been more useful.

Explored new hikes today. The first was the Canyon Trail at Waimea Canyon State Park. Planned to do the loop but made it to the first waterfall and the stream was raging, making crossing precarious. So I went back. Then drove down to the literal end of the road along the Nāpali coast and hiked the first mile of the Pihea trail, which gives you the fabulous view down to the ocean. Wrapped it up with a poke plate at Kauai Kookie. Not a bad Saturday.

sidekiq got stuck. Things weren't going through for a couple of hours. A script restarts it frequently but the stuck sidekiq didn't want to exit. For the curious, here's what that looks like on the sidekiq dashboard.
You are not getting rid of fascism without one of two things happening:
A) stomping the nazis
or 😎 shutting off the money tap
It's gonna be one, or the other, and in BOTH CASES the ENTIRE ESTABLISHMENT will accuse you of violence and sedition.
Those are just the facts mate.
So today, something very exciting happened: I saw a black-backed woodpecker!! One just landed in a tree right beside me for a moment!! I've wanted to see one for so long, that made me really happy. What a cool creature.
@idzie so cool!

This is your official notice that we'll be making a major security release for Sharkey on the 20th of May, 2026, between $[unixtime 1779282000] and $[unixtime 1779289200]. Prepare to update immediately upon release. If you are unable to update your instance at the given time, take it offline before the release.
A few months ago, our Subaru's battery stopped keeping a charge. Like we had to jump-start it after two days of non-use. Turned out that the 2g modem stopped being able to connect so it was constantly looking for a signal, depleting the battery. Took out the fuse, problem solved. But now the bluetooth connection won't work, which isn't that big of a deal (or too expensive after paying the mechanic to figure it out). Point being that telematics have costs beyond just invading privacy.
basically i think linux constantly screaming ZERO-COPY!!!! as the only possible way the kernel can optimize i/o is annoying, unimaginative, and ascientific. it seems obvious that splice() should just allocate a free page and copy. io_uring should just be getdents() (maybe two distinct buffers as a struct arg, submitted in a synchronous syscall).

@decryption cheers mate! for some reason i thought it was forumS, not forum singular lol
ok i do see io_uring has a mode to link dependent i/o operations. i'm pretty sure the "zero-copy" claim is deeply misleading however and i've just found this incredible quote
