How breathtakingly offensive.
Version 8.3 of Calibre is the last without any genAI at all.

*sigh*
@troublewithwords I tried Calibre for awhile, but it had issues; much prefer Foliate.
This is cool.

Does anyone else frame feathers? A quick feelgood project: Preening feather found in the garden, leftover fabric and padding from a long-ago project, and a $5 5x7" IKEA frame. It'll go on one of my gallery walls when I find the right spot.
I have decided to shut down my #mastodon instance, and all my public facing web services.
This will happen in 3 months time, on November 29, 2026, to allow everyone to backup and migrate.
The reason for this is that I can no longer trust:
- the #Linux kernel
- #Debian
- rails
- most #Foss projects
Additionally, I'm basically out of storage, it is unaffordable to purchase more, and no one is interested in donating to help.
Our bastion of free computing has been poisoned by fascist gen ai slop, and basically NONE of it can be trusted anymore.
It's impossible to vet slop from an ecosystem that is welcoming of it.
This makes it nearly impossible to update my systems, which makes it harder to pretend it's even remotely secure.
I'm fucking devestated - gutted by what has happened to computing, and I just do not have the resources to keep fighting.
Fuck all you #LLM boosters into the sun. May you learn the folly of your way and DO SOMETHING TO FIX IT!
I know this is a bit tmi, but I have a complicated relationship with clothes, and pants in particular. I found a pair of pants I get on with and literally don't buy any other kind. They are reasonably priced and comfortable. Everything fits in and doesn't move around too much (sorry for being sexy on the internet, but we've all got a bum - deal with it). However they do have a tendency to fall apart after a while. I will charitably say this is because I clean them fastidiously and not that my balls excrete acid somehow, like someone in my marriage who will remain anonymous has theorised. I therefore have to occasionally sadly say goodbye to my old friends, with whom I have shared many adventures. But I went through some Very Hard Times not that long ago and took to mending my pants (which for the interested, are exclusively black - that's just how I roll). And then I discovered I got a kick out of mending them with gold thread. And now I can't stop. And I imagine it's not terribly appealing to Mrs Bread to have a husband who refuses to throw away his old pants, but instead spends hours badly sewing them with the wrong colour thread. But the thing is.....a) she's not interested in me at the moment anyway, and b) my brain has decided it's like kintsugi. Whatever the pants version of kintsugi is. Pantsugi. And it means I rescue my old friends and we go on even more adventures, and they get a chance to live the second half of their life a little snazzier. Just me and my pants with their lil gold sparkle. Going running around town and getting into mischief. Anyway I've just done a bunch of sewing and it's made me strangely happy. And it's not like I never buy new pants. I did recently. And I got them from somewhere else. A trusted premium brand. And do you know how much they were? THIRTY POUNDS!!!!!!!!!! FOR PANTS!!!!!!!!!!! It should be a crime. The worst crime. Charging £30 for pants. And when they inevitably die, I will need to decide whether they deserve to be inducted into the Gold Club. Honestly I think they may not deserve it. I think they might be one and done. The audacity. Sometimes I read what I've written and genuinely wonder if I'm ok.
Justin M. Keyes, the guy who will be remembered for taking a charityware project that had donated to Uganda for 30 years, made users donate half a million dollars¹ to the Neovim devs instead, and then gave the project to the Nazis.

Ted Lasso is amazing, it's sweet and optimistic without being obnoxious, the main character's superpower is bringing out the best in other people, it has an emotional range that is exceedingly refreshing and wait a second you just made Steven Universe for adults didn't you
Did you know that you don't need to start #emacs in daemon mode before being able to use emacsclient?
That's what the -a / --alternate-editor option or the ALTERNATE_EDITOR environment variable are for. If set to the empty string, the client will start Emacs in daemon mode and then connect to it.

If Pixelfed isn't for you, there are many amazing alternatives like:
- @frequency
- @gotosocial
- @admin
- @vernissage
All of them let you share images. All of them talk to Pixelfed. Leaving isn't a punishment here, because you never lose the network.
When you put people first, you build doors instead of cages.
@pixelfed @frequency @gotosocial @admin @vernissage I remember monnett mentioning pixelfed in, one of their Instagram post

From scratch.
Making custom models has turned 3D-printing from a family novelty into a full-blown craft and life-improving hobby for me.
I started in TinkerCAD, which can get you VERY far, VERY quickly. Now I make most models in Onshape, since I've built up the skills to be pretty fast with it, too.
I sometimes print stuff I find on Makerworld, but usually the problems I'm trying to solve are too specialized.
@marcoarment @martimw Cadova produces 3D models from code, a bit like OpenSCAD, but Cadova uses Swift. It might be of interest. https://github.com/tomasf/Cadova
