The Sun has likely passed so close to other stars in the past that it captured thousands of small interstellar objects from alien systems, reports a new study.

so i did a talk yday on a panel about technofascism at the Anarchist Studies Network conference and out of a room of about 30 i'd say there was a glimmer of recognition for "the fediverse" and "mastodon" from about two people and noone said they were on it.
saying this as an expression of how little known this place is even inside cultures that are 100% politically aligned
@tuxom wobei erschreckend wäre, was für ein kleiner Abbruch für das Unheil gereicht hat…
@mradcliffe @julian @Edent Agreed - my implementation adds the alg parameter.
But if I remember correctly, relying on algorithm ID alone is not always safe, and the key type should also be validated.

How to write consistently boring scientific literature
Ah, I get the Meta $17B thing now. Big tech doesn't like EU regulations because they are, well, from the EU and have to be followed once implemented. They much prefer to pay a bit of money to be allowed to write the rules themselves. Because that's what the US deal effectively is. Meta pays $1.2B per year in exchange for being left alone and come up with some soft rules that they get to implement and control themselves.
What connects cycling on a Danish peninsula to an ascent of Mont Ventoux, and how does travelling by bike shape our understanding of where we ride?

So I am definitely shadow banned on Twitter/x, and it was light switch obvious. I had around 20k followers, and now I've got basically 2 or 3 people who occasionally interact with me. I get why, I'm not Elon Musk's biggest fan.
What's weirder is that it seems to be similar on Bluesky. I did criticize it early and had a falling out with the early community, but nothing directly with staff. But I am definitely just yelling into the void, basically just a few old friends interact with me there.
The Fediverse: Where the void yells back at you™
Začal tisk volebních lístků pro podzimní senátní volby. Lístky pro souběžné komunální volby se pak přidají zítra. Břeclavská tiskárna, která má jejich výrobu na starost, na ně spotřebuje stovky tun papíru.

Another example on "if you're really so great why do you need to keep reminding everyone" - because it's actually hard to inform *everyone*. https://mastodon.social/@kim@post.lurk.org/117178104943206512
It is possible that solar-powered fediverse instances will help us past the climate crisis. But this cannot be assumed. Much more work needs to be done, and it will require a mix of degrowth’s materialist analysis with solarpunk’s speculative idealism. As solarpunk author T.X. Watson told me, we cannot indulge in either pessimism or optimism....
