It seems to me, what matters is the relationship sources and the result.

Whether something is transformative is assessed case by case, creation by creation. (Irrespective of tools used).

And in the case of LLMs, where 'creators' do not select/understand their sources, whether it's copyright infringement or not is just a spin of the roulette wheel. The problem is now everyone's got infinite spins

Culture waxes and wanes, and villains always come back with another plot to enthrall us. It's the wealth disparity really, we still use and enforce the exchange of money, thus obliging us to help rich people make good communities bad so they can take them over. Once those guys don't have us on the ropes, because peasant revolt debt jubilee or something, people will stop being so gung-ho to lay chains on each other.

Another way to think about it is free software people wrote alternatives to proprietary software, but didn't negatively affect the proprieters in any way, and leaving them alone gave them plenty of time (and money) to think up a scheme to subvert those free software people.

It's like the "MS certification" trend, pushing people to be educated in ways that have a corporate gatekeeper, instead of actually how computers work.
