@span strypey Regarding #postmarketOS and #Mobian, the "one app version […] works on any variant" thing has an answer you may or may not like: Flatpak, and ship that on https://flathub.org, using the GNOME or KDE runtimes. If MetaInfo/AppData is set correctly, it will show up in flathub's Mobile Collection even: https://docs.flathub.org/docs/for-app-authors/metainfo-guidelines/#mobile-collection
Unfortunately, that would leave out #SailfishOS or #UbuntuTouch, although that's possible, too - look, e.g., at Pure Maps and Amazfish, which are available "everywhere". Unfortunately, with the drive to migrate things to Qt6 (distributions would like to stop shipping Qt5 eventually), Sailfish OS and Ubuntu Touch may be left behind until they catch up. Going web based or using Flutter are other ways to get some cross platform support, unfortunately always leaving out one of the #MobileLinux contenders.

@linuxphoneapps @strypey @postmarketOS @mobian @linmob@linuxmobile.social @linmob@lemmy.ml A lot of these issues will be fixed organically if selling #FreeSoftware becomes more normal, and we figure out a good common way for developers to charge for their apps. Donations and volunteering will only go so far, and with all the existing bills and subscriptions and the broken fiat monetary system, adding another donation on top is not going to do it unless people (including me) are required to pay for the app to use it, even if just once, even if just $1 like how WhatsApp used to do once.

Some are asking: why does privacy-focused Organic Maps use GitHub? The largest open-source contributor network, familiar PR & issue workflow, Actions CI, broad integrations, zero infra to maintain, and easy onboarding/discoverability. This lets us focus on improving the app instead of running and maintaining servers. Development time is the most precious resource nowadays, and most of our users don't care where the code is hosted, but care about the app functionality and usability…
Do you care?
@span organicmaps that is a false choice, it does not have to binary of github or self hosting. codeberg is #FreeSoftware and collectively run by the community. There is no platform maintenance cost if you choose #codeberg. Do you like if codeberg actively promoting Google Maps and saying OSM is incomplete, and not convenient ? Free Software projects have to support and promote each other, if we grow together, everyone benefits. If every other Free Software were promoting convenience it'd affect OSM.
We need some suggestions!
A friend has a non-profit association and they use Google Sites as their website where they publish their calendar, events, photos, etc.
We would like to suggest a European alternative to Google Sites, but it has to be:
- free
- no-code
- easy (for a 70 year old non-tech-savvy admin)
- not just one landing page: there are many categories of information, one page for each)
- no need for fancy design, their current Google Site is text heavy
We only know paid solutions, self-hosting or free one-page website, so it doesn't help.
If there isn't a European solution, a non-Google option might be okay.
Any recommendations?
@span ueeu For making the website itself, Publii is a nice user-friendly CMS for static sites.
It runs locally, and can upload the website pages and assets to many remote storage solutions, including FTP, SFTP, S3, and Git.
For the hosting part, you can find many user-respecting, privacy-focused, and EU-based providers on the CHATONS collective website: https://www.chatons.org/.
