hey! do you know things? do you wanna learn things? (i hope the answer to both those things is yes)
the other day, I offered on here that i would be happy to teach folks some basic web and terminal stuff. other people picked up the idea, also saying they'd be happy to teach!
so, because i have too much free time and not enough enrichment in my enclosure, it's a simple website now.
introducing the fedi skillshare classifieds: https://inherentlee.codeberg.page/fedi-skillshares/
want to be involved? send me some real basic info (fedi handle, what you want to share, a category for it) and i'll put it on the site! and of course, share the site, either via this post or your own. I'm using the #fediSkillshares hashtag :)

What this poll shows, is a country ready for the Bricks Through Windows Party.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/may/18/donald-trump-second-term-approval-rating-drops
"The US president’s approval rating has declined to 37%, according to the New York Times/Siena poll: the lowest level since his return to office in January 2025."
"But the poll is not a straightforward win for Democrats, either. Only 26% of voters said they were satisfied with the Democratic party, and 44% of Democrats expressed dissatisfaction with their own party."
*hard stare*
Anna Friz is a major omission here (see her 2009 essay "Radio as Instrument"...), but still cool to see some radio/transmission art coverage in this venue esp the newer selections https://daily.bandcamp.com/lists/radio-as-instrument-album-guide

I should drop out and write folk music.
be happy to accompany you on guitar or banjo whenever you go that way.

So far the Dodgers have lost a qame a week by one run. Dump some salaries of the guys playing contract home run and bring in some ball players that can score a run.
Seven runners LOB, two with less than two outs.

Of the ESA-CAS Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer (SMILE) mission from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
Brilliant! Thanks again for reporting on this important mission. Very impressive to see the professionalism of the mission control team running this joint EU China space mission launch.
omg
Davies was very much an engineer rather than a scientist, and he was always on the lookout
for topics in which his ingenuity and insight could be deployed.
guy who steals people's ideas
He was early in the field of civil uses of cryptography and always had a healthy scepticism of claims to perfection.
terrifying
Mathematical proof of the security of a system struck him as dubious, because it is much easier to prove resistance to attacks one has thought about than it is to prove resistance to attacks one has not thought about.

Aesthetics are essential part of our action actually. How can we find each other if we can't even recognize each other?
oh then i found this guy who was at the arpanet conference http://royalsocietypublishing.org/rsbm/article-pdf/doi/10.1098/rsbm.2002.0006/911101/rsbm.2002.0006.pdf
so like this guy is easily off the charts evil imho. this is him saying he was smarter and braver than alan turing:
My few contacts with Turing were not encouraging. I wanted to talk to him about the remarkable results of his paper ‘On computable numbers’. Reading this paper I had found numerous errors in the formal specification of the universal computer. Some were trivial but others were quite subtle and I was not sure that my solutions were correct. When I came to this point, Turing became more and more agitated, until I could see that no sensible discussion was possible. Clearly he felt the errors to be irrelevant and my drawing attention to them rather foolish.
then he mysteriously advises on "cryptography" from the late 80s until he finally fucked off this planet
Retirement did not by any means imply inactivity. For the next 15 years Davies practised
as a consultant in security engineering for the financial and media industries. This was at a
time when systems based on cryptographic and similar techniques were coming into wide use
both for cash cards and pay television.

@sundogplanets It was too cloudy here. I'm glad you got to see it!
Hey, I asked @douglascrockford and he confirmed my impression: This year (last month, actually) is JSON’s 25th birthday.

oh this is a great tidbit
Before 2023, SOSP was held every other year, alternating with the conference on Operating Systems Design and Implementation (OSDI);
- starting 2024, SOSP began to be held every year.
