"How We Lost Communication to Entertainment" by @ploum https://ploum.net/2025-12-15-communication-entertainment.html
I loved this post even though it's a bit bleak. Social media evolved into a power-law thing where a small percent of accounts produce content, a slightly larger percent remixes it, and most people just surf (myself included on many platforms!).
The fediverse probably hasn't escaped this, but it does have other virtues.
I don't want to spoil Pluribus for anyone but feel I must point out that Pluribus I reckon is Latin for two busses, and therefore a couple of busses are gonna turn up at some point and be very important to the story
@TheBreadmonkey
I am looking forward now to the buses showing up in "Pluribus," Ben, and am hoping that they'll be double-deckers.
So my laptop died last week. My computer is my lifeline. I use it for gaming, for streaming, and for content creation, and was planning on getting back into 3d modelling and video editing.
I set up a crowdfund for a desktop PC on my throne that meets my needs. Would love to get some help on this. Thanks!

@49016 such refined taste
"Scientists flew drones equipped with special kit through the exhaled droplets, or "blows", made when the giants come up to breathe through their blowholes.
They detected a highly infectious virus linked to mass strandings of whales and dolphins worldwide."
hey fedi, not following the laptop market too closely, but what are some good laptops around the $500 price range?

also, this happened this year:
Following Charlie Kirk’s assassination and the Trump administration’s promise to go after the “radical left” a study showing most domestic terrorism is far-right was disappeared.

@404mediaco The far right regime in power now LIVES by the creed of "the big lie." Repeat it over and over and people believe them. Others disprove them, but they keep repeating it and say that the facts are just lies from the Democrats (even when independent non-political parties report them) and people just accept it.
What is this weakness in the human brain that just repeating a thing over and over is more effective than people actually seeing reality itself in front of them?

After 15 months of hard work, my dad has finished this impressive model of Minas Tirith! It is 1.4 m high and entirely hand-made out of wood. One of the most time-consuming parts was manually engraving the bricks on all walls and buildings, but this was key to properly convey the huge size of the city. Everything was painted by hand, adding some wear and tear. For a behind-the-scenes look at how he built this check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Ywlc8ojjE

Everyone wants to “live authentically” but nobody wants to admit that authentic human behavior includes status games, tribalism, and caring what strangers think of you. We’re not trapped in society, we are society. The call is coming from inside the house.
@Daojoan The best description I ever heard was, "Wherever you feel a loss of freedom, power, or freedom of expression, there's something inauthentic." Anything else is, as you say games, vanity. But what matters, really, when we talk authenticity is what's in our hearts. So ha, yes, many talk inauthentically about authenticity and however we are *is* us and so strictly speaking authentic, even the poutiest Insta pout, but for me authenticity/inauthenticity is about showing/hiding who we are.
