Bonfire Social 1.0 is live! A federated, community‑first social network built on the modular Bonfire toolkit, and it’s only the beginning.
It's time to go beyond microblogging and build apps for community organising, open science, mutual aid, and collective decision‑making. Let's take back the internet with open protocols, consent‑based governance, and portability by design.

"The moment of discovery" does not always exist: the scientist's work is too tenuous, too divided, for the certainty of success to crackle out suddenly in the midst of his laborious toil like a stroke of lightening, dazzling him by its fire.

Today I fixed a television out of spite.
One of the most common faults with modern TVs is a backlight failing. These are cheap to replace, and the tools to test them are cheap to obtain.
But the effort to get to the backlights? Oh my!
A TV that was made to be repaired would have a separate pane for backlights you could slide out, or some other access mechanism.
But today's consumer TVs require you to disassemble practically everything to get to the backlights. That means getting to them is a huge investment in time (for self-repair) or money (if you go to a repair shop and pay for labour). TV companies know that most people will just buy a whole new TV.
So today I fixed the TV out of spite. Not because it was rewarding, or for environmental or financial concerns (although all of these are valid). I fixed it because the company that made it did not want it to be easily fixed.
Just opened an issue for a major new task for #Fedify: building an #interoperability smoke test suite.
To ensure Fedify-built servers federate correctly with the wider #fediverse, we're planning to run automated E2E tests in #CI against live instances of Mastodon, Misskey, and more. This is crucial for a framework's reliability.

I am periodically upset that ActivityPub does not mandate a closed json-ld context for all objects. The reason it can accept new context definitions is basically so that useless examples can fit on less documentation space. It sacrifices practical interoperability for the theoretical comfort of developers.
ADHD and negative self focus
For many individuals with ADHD, the reality is more complex than just inattention. The opposite is often true: an extreme, poorly controlled fixation on distressing topics.
We call this the Negative Self-Focus.

Gotta love The Guardian for those quotes from Europeans on #Mamdani's win in NYC:
"Verbeek backed this with a comment he had overheard in an Oslo cafe, in which Mamdani was described as an American politician who “finally” sounded normal."
“Normal. That’s the word,” Verbeek wrote in his newsletter, The Planet. “Here, taking care of one another through public programs isn’t radical socialism. It’s Tuesday.”

Gemeinsam mit @maxpichl (Frankfurt UAS) starten wir darum das Projekt „Rechtskämpfe um Informationsfreiheit“ und schauen uns ganz genau an, auf welcher Grundlage Behörden Informationen zur Verschlusssache erklären. i am looking forward to the time in which dhh becomes one of those names that prompts you to stare in the distance, vaguely remembering what a shitty person they were back then, but that it's been so long that perhaps they might even merit some kind of grace, not that you will ever cross paths again
but that's not now yet. here's another great piece on the whole thing, by @alatiera https://blogs.gnome.org/alatiera/2025/11/06/dhh-and-omarchy-midlife-crisis/
