@mastodonmigration @tribeofjesse "Deranged. Delusional. And soon to be defeated. Calling millions of Americans collateral damage in his illegal war that nobody asked for takes a special kind of depravity, the kind only a man as weak and feeble as Donald Trump could sink to," said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

There is part of me that thinks, well, this stuff doesn't really matter that much, right? Like, if we can just ignore AI and software freedom and right to repair and so forth, maybe we could get a lot more done. Maybe it would make working on the real issues easier.
But that's not true! It's not true at all! Tech companies suppress discussion of Palestine and climate change all the time! Facebook took all the shit us privacy freaks have been whinging about for two decades and *caused a genocide*. We may be able to say the same of Flock in a few years, though I hope it doesn't come to that.
Unfortunately, it matters a lot.
Getting started with #Apertus is easier than ever 🚥 Learn how the fully open source model is being deployed across a vibrant ecosystem, collaborating with beta-testers at organizations on key open source components https://apertus-ai.org/articles/2026-09-apertus-1-5-ga/
OK, I think I have it: this next book project isn’t precisely a “book about walking,” anymore than it’s a general history of long-range reconnaissance doctrine or a quasi-panpsychist account of sentience and environmental discernment. It’s an approach to *a general theory of the probe*. Lordy.
Maybe there are books one can only write at the end of the world.
Some really cool updates! We just recently deployed some special #Fediverse features on Govdirectory. First of all, we have now have a dedicated page where you not only can see all the Fediverse accounts for the public organizations, we also made it easy for you to download them in bulk. Check it out on https://www.govdirectory.org/fediverse/

And, equally, it makes me sick seeing people who I thought of as mostly in it for the political side of the movement, who I thought cared about free software because it makes people less dependent on companies that wish us harm, clap like seals waiting for the next tasty treat when those exact same companies show them a neat trick that saves some time.
Is this really how it works? People with a lot of money decide society will be worse, and it just... is, after three or four years?
These two posts are the same:

Even if one is talking about how Boeing's management interfaces with the Boeing organization, and the other is talking about how all of us interact with our own societies. I was just thinking about this, in light of @anildash 's We Are Going To Kill Unalive post: https://www.anildash.com/2026/10/06/kill-unalive/
The common thread underneath all of these is the same phenomenon: that the regression-to-the-mean of leadership is metrics.
@sinituulia ooh that looks awesome. I need to finish making the 18th century skirt I started, but I need to get a better light so I can sew in the evenings.
@quixoticgeek Thank you! It won't look quite the same, but that was what I started to draft based on.
I have two desk lamps on right now and still it's a bit dark here...
Being watched all the time can make growing up feel like a performance. 📱
On the Future Knowledge #podcast, Alexis Durante-Tierney and Helen Vogelsong-Donahue discuss the freedom to experiment, change, and have something that's just your own. MASS SURVEILLANCE AND THE LOSS OF FUN considers what constant surveillance means for that freedom.

What happened to anonymity & a free, open web?
Worryingly, this is a growing trend, which must be stopped. 💪
