@wilk j'intuite qu'aujourd'hui on gaspille beaucoup de ressources, mais qu'avec le temps on va arriver à distiller l'essentiel des LLM et qu'on aura moins besoin de tout "compiler" le Web : ca sera fait une fois pour toute. @nitot Aussi de nombreux travaux académiques intéressants pour des modèles d'attention bien plus efficaces (sans le problème de coûts quadratiques) et qui seraient plus frugaux en données et en ressources.
Ça va prendre un peu de temps (l'industrie vient juste de découvrir le raisonnement dans l'espace latent...).
Je reste optimiste que l'éclatement de la bulle serait une bonne chose.

I know that all the academics are on LinkedIn now so I have to post announcements etc. there, but it's an uncomfortable and unsettling experience actually reading it. Why do they put up with it? It's kind of sickening.
@neuralreckoning I feel the same way. I guess at least some of them actually like it?
There's a few PIs I know who have totally drunk the kool aid and are posting all kinds of thought leader-esque nonsense on there.

@mellifluousbox My local (favourite) cafe has a big TV showing constant slop generated scenic driving videos. They're fucking awful. Sweeping scenic flythrough shots following an AI generated car with AI generated people laughing and smiling. Grim. Especially if you sit through a complete loop and carefully notice all the glitches.
But. It's a great cafe. I just need to remember to not sit facing it! or perhaps I should take in a tv-b-gone.

Governments individualising a collective issues are only doing harm. Asking individuals to "stock up on supplies" is not taking action, it's the government giving up, setting the stage for a scarcity they are contributing to engineering, possibly with more wars.
I have ranted many times on why the war vocabulary and mindset are not good for environmentalism, one reason is exactly this prepper mentality that is only atomising us more while accepting this crisis as "inevitable"
