@matt @crowgirl If everyone wore N95s in public there'd be fewer kids brining covid (or other respiratory diseases) home,of course. And it would encourage kids to wear respirators as well, in imitation of their parents and general society to fit in.
And if everyone was doing this then no one would be forced to the unrealistic 100% protective standard. Occasional lapses to eat, drink, adjust for comfort, or fit, or whatever, wouldn't be catastrophically risky.

Screw it. I'm going to run for president strictly on a platform of restoring names of geographical locations, train stations, airports, cultural centers, & military bases.
On day 1 I'll deal with those. On day 2 I'm going on a worldwide apology tour & I'm removing all tariffs. Once I get home from all of my embarrassing groveling for forgiveness, I am retiring from public life in hopes that someone with a plan to fix whatever else has been destroyed will arrive to replace me.

There was a time when written language was considered a source of de-skilling and intellectual decay.
It's a lot harder to memorize oral traditions than to simply look something up in a book, after all.
But writing things in books has enabled us to do many things we were completely incapable of in the times of oral tradition. So it's kind of a wash.
LLMs don't appear to be such an even trade-off.
Frankly at this point, I'm starting to think spoken language was a mistake...

Is there a word for the feeling of a kitten's pads and beans? They aren't sticky. But they have a nice plump friction-ness to them. You can tell they're good for stopping quickly or launching in a pounce. I just can't come up with the right word for them!

Boom, our 17yo has just got his full drivers' license in our (34 yo) manual Subaru. Well done, son, I'm proud of you! 🎉 (Turns out taking the test in a manual car is an increasing rarity - apparently his examiner said for her it was about one every 3 weeks)
@lightweight congrats to you both 😄 Both my boys did it in a manual. There seems to be a bit of a resurgence in their frend groups for this anyway, along with analog watches and record players. But we just think you learn more car control learning in a manual.
