Well, that sucks - The Great #Vegan Gathering is cancelled due to some bands supposedly being antisemitic and #UKLFI pressurising the venue to cancel the event.

In 1970, Scientific American's legendary publication The Amateur Scientist ran an article on homemade transistors.

Not MOSFETs, but thin-film transistors made by Roger Baker with a DIY spray pyrolysis system. With handmade drawings like this.

In 2026, Google could not find this. I only found this from a StackExchange post which linked to a 2009 blog post that mentioned it. Then to see the actual article I had to go to JSTOR, sign in with my institution, re-sign-in to EZProxy, wait for the 2FA prompt, wait like a minute for their stupid website to load, click download, agree to not share it amongst the other terms and conditions, then download it.

I have no desire to go back to the world of 1970s, but I somehow feel the way that tech megacorps and licensing bs runs the world of 2026 is a scourge on human creativity and experimentation. /thread

Ma maman à La Réunion ça fait des semaines qu'elle est en train de se faire menacer de formations obligatoires hebdomadaire et retrait du RSA par France Travail parce qu'elle trouve pas de taff

Alors que :
• elle a 62 ans
• elle cumule les problèmes de santé et sort d'un arrêt de plusieurs mois
• elle est assistante maternelle à domicile sauf que mdr c'est les grandes vacances donc elle risquait pas de trouver des missions rapidement fin juin quand France Travail a commencé à la harceler
• elle est en logement social et le loyer c'est 75% de son RSA

@nileane elle peut demander un courrier à son médecin qui dit qu'elle n'est pour l'instant pas en mesure de réalisé une formation en vu d'un reconversion ou ha savoir quoi d'autre... en France métropolitains j'ai fait ça pour une patiente qui a vu le médecin du rsa ou de France travail ou je sais pas lequel qui la exempté pour un temps.

I'm always scared to put my wide(er)-angle lens on my camera instead of the long lens that lives on it, because what if a great bird lands RIGHT in front of me and I don't have the right lens to get the shot?? Just the worst FOMO. But since I'm going to be on top of a mountain on my trip I feel like I've kind of got to bring my 25mm lens too, I want some landscape shots, and I'll just have to accept that nothing is predictable and a boreal chickadee could show up when I had the wrong lens on, and I'd just have to cope with that. 🥲
