Out of curiosity, I analysed Ecosia's infrastructure (through IPs and ASNs) to find out whether it is #European or not.
I was surprised to find that it relies on #AWS S3 for financial data reports (stored .json data), #Amazon Cloudfront for the Ecosia.org search, Fastly for blog.ecosia.org, #Cloudflare for the Ecosia.org homepage, #Google Ads and probably others.
In July 2025, they posted on their blog that 'digital #sovereignty is just #oneclickaway', stating that Europe's digital backbone is dependent on the US and all the problems this entails, such as a lack of control.
They also said, 'We've always believed that where you search matters' and 'Digital #sovereignty is climate action too', despite the fact that they depend on Big Tech themselves and use almost no EU infrastructure in practice.
As Ecosia is a signatory to the #EuroStack initiative, why haven't you migrated your infrastructure to #European solutions?
It is worrying to know that, by switching to Ecosia, practically 100% of my traffic goes through non-EU companies. I would like to see more independence on your part.
'Building and using local infrastructure means reducing transatlantic data traffic, increasing energy efficiency, and cutting down on the carbon footprint of cloud computing. Plus, tech companies that are based here are more likely to be held accountable to EU environmental standards. It's a win-win.’ – Ecosia Blog https://blog.ecosia.org/digital-sovereignty-is-just-oneclickaway/

#Amazon has started generating product listings for companies that don't sell on Amazon, without their permission or knowledge: https://www.modernretail.co/technology/brands-are-upset-that-buy-for-me-is-featuring-their-products-on-amazon-without-permission/ "Buy For Me" links activate an #AI agent that attempts to buy the product through the retailer's actual storefront. The listings are AI generated and error-prone. Some allow customers to place orders for items that are no longer available. Companies are having to assure their suppliers that they haven't violated contractual agreements against selling on Amazon.

Die Abhaengigkeiten sind einfach nur gruselig!
Wie sieht das eigentlich in Deutschland aus? Laufen die Bankautomaten da auch ueber AWS?
Jeff Bezos is saying the quiet part out loud. They want to kill local computing.
You will own nothing and be happy. You will rent your computing power from the cloud. You pay a subscription for the privilege of using a computer.
AI demand is artificially spiking DRAM prices and Big Tech is pushing "AI PCs," the squeeze is on to force us into a rental model.
Reject this future.
Keep your hardware local.
Run #Linux.
Own your data.
The "cloud" is just a landlord for your data.

it’s too long, so i ganked the image and am reupping with the transcript:
❝ AMAZON JUST TURNED YOUR DOORBELL INTO A POLICE SURVEILLANGE WEAPON
[…]Flock has already been used to track immigrant communities and prosecute women over abortion access. Now your Ring camera is part of the pipeline.
No warrant. No vote. No warning,
You didn’t install a doorbell, You installed government spyware.❞
