I personally wouldn't have problems being cut off from these software companies. There are many alternatives out there.
Except for Windows itself i don't intentionally use any services of said companies. I would guess that many companies would be in serious trouble because they have no exit strategy from these cloud providers.

On Xitter, retweeting didn't really mean people would see the post you're sending over. It was more about hoping the algorithm will notice the post and show it to people. Not even necessarily people that see your posts. Just, in general.

A Mastodon/Fedi post being Boosted is actually you, personally, showing people what you think they should see. It matters who Boosted what, and not in terms of how big the account is and how much the algorithm will favour it as a result.

And it goes both ways. Seeing a specific person Boosted something feels like that specific person is drawing your attention to it.

One retweet is meaningless. One Boost is no more and no less meaningful than one person saying "hey, look at this".

Which is to say, pretty darn meaningful.

@mttaggart The issue is that residential ISPs issue a *dynamic* prefix that changes every 45 days or so, but many of them will still issue /48s either if you ask or by default so you can still have subnets, so if you want to in principle be “on” your internal network, you ought to be able to get an IP out of the current delegated prefix, not a fixed one.

@lrhodes not sure. The PDS certainly applies takedowns for illegal and malicious content, I thought it was applied by the moderation service but don't know exactly how the layering is.

Anyhow my assumption is that one way or another Bluesky PBC will have access to information in permissioned spaces on Bluesky PBC-hosted PDSs; and, at least for the time being, in practice is also likely to have access to on most if not all of the non-Bluesky-hosted PDSs.
