The Onion needs to have a White House correspondent. An Onion correspondent would undoubtedly report more factual news than most of the existing WH correspondents. The Onion couldn't do a worse job the NYT.

@promovicz a constant substitution operation that maps every distinct symbol into another will demonstrate the same frequency distributions for pairwise transitions between letters, while a permutation foils the ability to group by n-gram by splitting across n-grams. compression is a kind of substitution that uses varied-length bit strings for each symbol, so also foils the ability to identify the atomic tokens of the message and the borders between pairwise token transitions

still developing this theory but consider each in isolation: mapping each symbol 1:1 means encoding any other message the same way (a known-plaintext attack) can be used to invert the mapping. i think splitting across the bitwise borders is probably the key trick somehow
