So I never watched "Big Bang Theory" but clips of it seem to surface on #YT from time to time. I just got a chuckle over a short bit that involved driving the Mars Rover, because here on Mastodon ... oh never mind.

Long ago I knew someone who apparently thought he might have lost communication with a military satellite. He said he was pretty upset at the time -- understandable. Apparently comms were regained or were never really lost, I don't remember the full story now.

huh. TIL: there is a “four corners” place in Canada, like there is more famously in the USA, where Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico meet.

But ours is automatically cooler, figuratively and literally*, because it is a: at 60° Latitude, and b: involves two Territories and two Provinces.

It is where the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba meet.

It is also a LOT harder to get to. Though arguably, as it is amongst the thousands of lakes in the area, during the summer, a float plane would get you there.

Also, technically. It is not a perfect “joining” on the map which is just bad planning on Canada’s part, but at least it is hiking distance. Or that might be just a projection issue. They seem to converge at 60N 102W. I guess I could consult an official boundary document or something :)

I saw a #YT video where a guy took a radiation meter all over Hiroshima -- even to structures that predated the atomic bombing -- to see if there was any residual radiation. He found nothing over background, even standing directly at ground zero of the air burst (there's a plaque at that location). The remains of the famous "atomic bomb dome" actually read a bit below background elsewhere. As he moved out into the surrounding area outside of central Hiroshima itself (e.g. more suburban) the background count got noticeably higher, but still considered to be effectively "normal". One assumes that cleanup efforts were concentrated on the more central areas, for obvious reasons.
