I really appreciate this stance.
Too many people try to use "but it's useful" as a counterargument to what we say, for example, in The AI Con. Useful for whom and at what cost (to the user and especially others) should always be the immediate follow up.
@emilymbender Except that it's also not useful. Everything it's supposedly useful for it actually turns out to be terrible at.
Young people are mad and so too is every #Canadian sweltering in the heat, fleeing their homes and communities due to floods or fires, overcome with wildfire smoke or rising waters, threatened or having been burned out by #wildfires, faced destruction by tornadoes, or any other #climate disaster. And the #CarneyCons are just adding fuel to hasten our destruction. https://www.halifaxexaminer.ca/morning-file/the-carney-government-has-abandoned-canadas-climate-goals-and-young-people-are-mad-about-it/
@are0h For me, at least, you just dropped some breaking news, sir. My, my, my.
@oli Ha, RSS for the win.
@cadey a did enjoy your post, as usual.
It also helped me to explain to a colleague why we shouldn't re-implement sigv4 as a project was intending to do - to combat some bots and their misbehaviour s
@esparta I'm actually working on a blogpost where I reimplement (the server side of) SigV4 so that I can reuse Tigris' existing API authentication layer. When I implemented it in my open source experimentation repo I've found it sucks way less than you'd think.
You know, I'm actually looking forward to the next Fallout game now that Bethesda isn't making it.
@are0h For me, at least, you just dropped some breaking news, sir. My, my, my.
@jae There's been at least one attempt at building a #FiberArts instance, but the admin got overwhelmed, so we've gone back to just using the hashtags
that said, there's a lot of us here on wandering dot shop, and I can get you an invite code if needed
@WizardOfDocs that'd be great to get her started. i'm technical and this wouldn't be too much for me to manage. just want to be sure she'll use it before committing. infrastructure/code is standing by.

Un cerambyx a priori, mais j'ai dû mal à l'identifier.
A priori pas le capricorne des maisons (ouf!)
Gamers need to push back on rent-only copyright culture before it’s too late. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/07/sony-nerfs-videogame-ownership
@eff I moved to new games on old consoles years ago - nobody's taking away my copies of Dimeo's Jukebox and Tobu Tobu Girl DX. I'm pretty sure Lizard for the NES is still available for purchase as well.
There are so many possibilities!
@brenetic E2EE in ActivityPub
@Viss also also, grammarly, who insists they are not a keylogger except for the waddling, paddling, and quacking
@jpm i have stories about those guys
@jenniferplusplus But then you'd have to acknowledge that there (gasp) may be systemic issues that individuals cannot possibly address and (scream) consider where the true culpability lies and (faint) actually offer help instead of harm.
Madness, right?
@ricko yes, but desperate times and all that

I’m just now seeing that @joynewacc made it out of #Gaza and is continuing her studies in Italy. I just wanted to boost for all those who contributed to her fundraiser just in case they missed her previous posts, as I did. The support we provide as a global community can be life changing. Her family in Gaza obviously still needs our continued support: https://chuffed.org/project/farah-needs-help
We made a comic about calculus.
@lowqualityfacts I quite enjoyed calculus
Whenever someone comes up to me at a conference and says "Hi Christine, my name is <$NAME> and we last encountered each other in <$CONTEXT>" I am *SO GRATEFUL*
@cwebber it shows that they understand variable expansion. :-)
