Earlier this week I unsubscribed from #1Password and moved to #Bitwarden... due to their donation of 300k to DHH's #Omarchy.

I made sure to let them know about the reason, so that hopefully the company would notice those kind of decisions have an impact.

Day one I got messages from their AI system.

But today I got a response by a real human at 1Password (or so it appears).

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your questions and concerns about our decision to become a corporate patron of the Omacom Foundation. We value the relationship we have with you, and we want to respond thoughtfully and openly about the purpose of this commitment and how we're approaching it at 1Password.

At 1Password, we support developer and open-source communities because they're an important part of the ecosystem our customers rely on. We have a long history of supporting open source projects, including the Linux, Rails, and Rust Foundations. We chose to support Omarchy because it is a growing Linux environment that developers use and value, and because 1Password already had a meaningful presence in that community.

Contributing to the Omacom Foundation is intended to support hosting infrastructure and provides stable, long-term funding for the upstream open-source projects and maintainers on which Omarchy depends.

We recognize that Omarchy is closely associated with its founder, and that raises questions about what our support means. @bortzmeyer malheureusement pour beaucoup, même si c'est "énervant", le "travail" dont on parles ici c'est la présence extérieure nécessaire, un fil de publication public qui est difficilement repoductible en "local"
oui avec le fediverse, mais sans le public.Un effort encore difficile à consentir parce que les outils sont pas encore au point (ni le public)
donc ok un nextcloud au lieu du gcloud/icloud, mais ton insta c'est autre-chose.
il faut une aide institutionelle + media pour basculer

Que veulent dire ces hommes politiques en se mettant en scène dans la cuisine d'un restaurant populaire ? Qu'ils sont "proches des gens" ? Que eux aussi, ils mangent des frites, comme vous et moi (le "peuple") ? Remarquez les tenues bien étudiées pour faire "membre de l'équipe, travailleur parmi les travailleurs".

Tout cela donne l'impression d'une scénographie, loin de toute authenticité, de toute vérité, pour vendre un produit, rien de plus.

Other #FediAdmins might want to look at blocking Russian IP address 91.217.80.62 from signing up, or the entire @nawitop.ru e-mail domain.
Our signup scanner has autosuspended almost 50 signup attempts from this IP, all using a seemingly random e-mail address in that toplevel domain.
Recently, Hungarian IP address 185.225.69.203 seems to have been added to their signup pool 🙄

I’ve almost never seen anyone use the #asstodon hashtag for the purpose that everyone expects when they first see it. The surprise is part of the charm. And the fact that most people recognize the little trick that was played, respect it and don’t abuse it.
