I’ve just read a BRUTAL #roast on #Omarchy. I guess I’m staying FAR away from it lol.
Lowlights:
🙁 Pre-installs a lot of proprietary garbage
🙁 Firewall did not run in one version
🙁 Unholy mess of Bash scripts, without --help flag
🙁 No man pages
🙁 No hibernation
🙁 Promotes a fake e-mail provider that isn't compatible with real e-mail
https://マリウス.com/a-word-on-omarchy/
Note sure how accurate this is (I didn’t install Omarchy) but if even the half of it is true, it’s bad.
「 Omarchy is essentially an installation routine for someone else’s dotfiles slapped on top of an otherwise barebones Linux desktop. Although you could simply run its installation scripts on your existing, fully configured Arch system, it doesn’t seem to make much sense and it’s definitely not the author’s primary objective 」
> Omarchy takes security extremely seriously.
Sure buddy, your `SigLevel = Optional TrustAll` says otherwise!

Can someone explain to me the whole drama with @frameworkcomputer, Omarchy, #DHH, Hyprland? From what I read, FW supported the development of #Hyprland, #GNOME, #KDE and #Omarchy and provided expertise to make them more compatible with their hardware. I do not get, why this is wrong or harmful towards Linux community.
I have no idea who DHH even is, what are their political views or alignments, nor did I notice any harmful messaging in Omarchy itself. Am I missing something?
Here is some cognitive dissonance to start your day. Do you believe both:
1. #OpenSource is a gift that maintainers give to the public. Thus, maintainers deserve our respect and gratitude, because they do not benefit from their selfless participation in the commons.
2. You should not use #Omarchy because investing your time and attention in his work benefits DHH and his hideous political project.
Well, I had to say *something*... #omarchy #framework #controversy
Well, I had to say *something*... #omarchy #framework #controversy
Fucking lol
The backstory is that I was making dinner and thought it would be funny if arch-install-scripts or mkinitcpio would detect #omarchy and just flat out fail.
Hench a systemd binary would make plenty sense!
Everyone who is interested in Arch and Hyprland should definitely check out # #omarchy

Have you given #omarchy a shot yet ?
