David Rios https://riosriosrios.com/ and Kari Love https://www.karimakes.com/ will present about Vape Synths, musical instruments made from discarded e-cigarettes. Created along with shuang cai, under the name Paper Bag Team, these projects aim to make electronic salvage parts more accessible to use and educate people how disposable vapes became an outsized source of e-waste. A shared ethos with global traditions of resourceful making, and local comm unity-based projects helped inspire them, and they in turn want to encourage others to make experiments and creative adaptations for both vape components and synths. They'll also explain why the project evolved from strictly a novelty instrument to a reprogrammable MIDI tool. David will conclude the talk with a short performance (there will definitely be Hot Cross Buns).

For years (15+) there's been a saying in #OpenStreetMap: “We use British English as understood by Germans”.

Wow. “A small board hidden inside a genuine Ledger Nano X listens to the wire between the secure element and the screen.
