Behold a cursed crate: a Rust macro that will use generative code to produce implementations. Write the function signature and that's it.
Nightmare fuel.
use ai_bindgen::ai;
#[ai]
extern "C" {
#[ai(prompt = "return the n-th prime number, please")]
fn prime(n: i32) -> i32;
// no prompt parameter (the signature should be self explanatory :)
#[ai]
fn max(a: i32, b: i32) -> i32;
}
fn main() {
println!("The 15th prime number is {}", prime(15)); // 47 (hopefully)
println!("max(4, 6) = {}", max(4, 6)); // 6
}
I like the "hopefully" there.

There are so many FCC comment periods that will close right at the beginning of January, on really stupid, short-sighted, make-billionaires-richer things they want to do with loosening the already incredibly loose regulations for satellites. I am tired. But I have to write stuff for these, because it's the one and only way to formally protest. Fuck.
HEADS UP that the FCC comment period for Reflect Orbital first hideously bright, ecology-disrupting satellite will open probably in mid- to late-January. I'm gonna need EVERYBODY to write in for that one.

Earlier this year, a friend introduced me as their mentor and I was speechless.
Recently, another friend introduced me as "a very experienced executive" with similar effect.
I'm... what? Wait... oh! 💡
For someone who feels like they spend inordinate effort on self-awareness, I sure seem to miss the headlines until someone says them out loud. 😳
Of course instead of pondering other positives I'm missing, I double down on negatives. 😂 Good one, 🧠.
chimerautils (our core userland package) has a new release that is now in the distro:
- based on freebsd 15.0-release
- plenty of upstream changes, such as...
- `find` supports `-printf`
- `cp` supports long options
- `cp` can merge directories
- `du` uses libxo (machine parseable output in many formats as requested)
- `id` can retrieve more data (e.g. homedir and shell)
- `stat` can find holes
- and more
- some downstream enhancements too
- `printf` supports `%q` (shell quoting)
- `xargs` supports `--arg-file`
- `mv` supports atomic file swapping (`-x`)
- `command -v` in `sh` is now a bit more relaxed (additional arguments are ignored and not an error), like dash
- `ls` will display files even if it can't `stat` them (e.g. stale sshfs mounts)
I had a look at some RiscOS screenshots before writing the last reply. 3.0 didn't have this visual pattern, late 3.x did, but 5.x did. I'm not sure exactly when it showed up, the early ones were all flat.
I will start installing Mastodon v4.5.3 on Masto.host.
There will be about 15 seconds of downtime during the upgrade.

Meta offers EU users ad-light option in push to end investigation
Facebook agrees to change "pay or consent" model after talks with European Commission.

@arstechnica use it sparingly, if at all. I joined right at the beginning, many years ago, and have seen it sink slowly but surely. The Fediverse is far more pleasant and acceptable. 😄
Dear Fediverse, thank you for being a safe haven from AI slop.
This morning, I checked out Pinterest for the first time in forever and saw an image purporting to be a LEGO set that was obviously AI generated - yuck!
Then on Reddit's popular page there was a video compilation of people saving children from terrible falls = AI slop.
YouTube's homepage: a short video showing a child and her dog covered in mud = AI slop.
What was I thinking? I should visit #Lemmy and #PeerTube instead...
@_elena i didn't know peertube yet, thx for sharing
