It's hard to believe now given the smiling crocodile he's become. Political principles up for auction, doing whatever is best for Winston Peters and bugger anyone else. I think at the time he really meant this.
His corruption is perhaps the saddest political story of NZ corporatism.
"More than a million people are affected by the cuts. The worst hit are 20-24 year olds on the dole. Their benefit drops by 25%, to $108 a week. Adjusted for inflation, that would be about $235 in 2025.
Sickness beneficiaries under 25 lose 20% of their income, down to $130 a week. $282 in today's money."

Mike Sabin has come a long way since his MethCon days (and a con it certainly was);
But he's still stuck in a 20th century paradigm where there is a single 'just say no' approach to "drugs", as a general category. One that nobody would accept if it included 3 of the most dangerous recreational drugs; alcohol, tobacco and pharmaceutical opioids.

Cory Doctorow believes that the economic crash that will ensue when the "AI" bubble finally bursts will make the GFC look like a mild wobble. When you get to the Mum justifying the regular knocks to the head her son's sport involves, I want you to imagine that she's talking about letting the same under-14 year old son drink alcohol. Would those same rationalisations and whattaboutisms fly in that case?
