Election year has only just begun, but Heather du Plessis-Allan and Barry Soper are already ripping into the Greens on air;

Presumably in the hopes this will shift "swing voters" from Labour to National. But I wonder if this kind of strategic denigration could backfire on them Streisand Effect style.

"I think it's the culture that has been bred in this country - and not just with antisemitism but lots of different issues - where people are terrified to talk about the issue, for fear of offending someone. Now, before I sound like I'm going on a 'cancel culture gone mad' tangent, I'm not at all. I think people should be compassionate and respectful ..."

A friend was asking for podcast recommendations for an upcoming road trip (typical scenario) and, not wanting to recommend my usual politics or film review ones, I mentioned an interesting South African one by Eusebius McKaiser. (His podcast was called In the Ring and was a mix of interviews and monologues.)
But the only thing is that he died in 2023.
I said he was unique enough that it's worth going and listening to some back episodes. But it really made me think about defunct #podcasts ...

"But what [Apple are] worried about is that Android is sort of taking over the market. Obviously they go from 0 - when the iPhone comes out Android doesn't really exist - to 80% of the market in a number of years."
#PatrickMcGee, 2026
This happened because unlike iThings, the original Android was an Open Source OS, which could be freely reused by device and app makers. As Android gets more and more locked down, this could happen again.

"We're here because of the blood, sweat and tears and the work of people who didn't fit in, and decided rather than fight against the system, we're going to build a new one. That's very important to recognise when you're benefiting from these new applications and this new technology.'

Very disappointed to see the Center for Humane Technology taking the "rogue AI" nonsense seriously;

Reality check; existing #MOLE Training tech is not dangerous because it's intelligent. It's harmful because it isn't, and never will be, but is being sold as-a-service on the promise that it is. It's harmful primarily because its deployment helps to further concentrate techno-political power.
"... we also see the spread of really pernicious cybersecurity legislation, which is spread under the guise of protecting people online, but is really about enabling online censorship, so that people feel too scared to put messages online. And those processes, I think, have started to really erode the emancipatory potential of this technology."

"[In a commons] ... there are engagements with the market, they're just not capital-driven, and extractive, and predatory.
...
There can be market activity, but as many Open Source communities know, introducing money and transactionalism to that community can poison relationships. Can start to erode the community. So there's a certain trickiness to dealing with money in a commons."

This is not for the fainthearted, it can be as loud and intense as you might expect. But it is unusual, atmospheric music, riding the knife edge between raucous and ambient, between expansive space and overwhelming volume.
