@Daojoan I don’t think this is the complete story. Social media’s toxic effects are real and should be addressed, but it’s also how we learned about Michael Brown and George Floyd and organized the BLM protests in response. It’s why we all know and care about Gaza. It’s how Zohran’s campaign touched so many diverse groups of people and mobilized them for a common cause. We shouldn’t dismiss empathy for strangers as “shallow” — it’s literally how we build a better world together.
