Attended a table talk this morning with @emilymbender and it was amazing, I learned a lot about how to be an effective advocate when arguing for policies and regulations that push back against AI boosterism.

Heads up, Seattle. With the temperature relief on onshore flow will likely come wildfire smoke from the Olympic Peninsula Bear Gulch fire. Hopefully it’ll stay aloft.

Thousands of science-fiction and fantasy fans are converging on #Seattle for #Worldcon 2025 - which marks the first time the world's premier sci-fi convention has been held in the Jet City since the techno-optimistic times of the Seattle World's Fair in the 1960s. https://www.geekwire.com/2025/worldcon-2025-past-future-science-fiction-seattle/#Space#Tech#ScienceFiction#Fantasy

Fare changes coming Sept. 1
"As Metro has previously shared, fares are increasing to $3 for its buses, Metro Flex, and Seattle Streetcar starting Sept. 1, 2025. King County Water Taxi adult fares using an ORCA card will increase by 25 cents, and ORCA LIFT discounted fares on water taxis will be reduced to $1. Riders are encouraged to update their ORCA card autoloads and monthly PugetPass. Reduced fare options are available for riders with lower incomes, and for seniors and riders with disabilities."

Seattle area friends! Tomorrow, 8/11, I'll be at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park @ 7pm, talking about Automatic Noodle with robot law professor Ryan Calo (sadly he's not a robot; he just studies how the law applies to robots). Please come! https://www.thirdplacebooks.com/event/annalee-newitz-automatic-noodle #bookstodon #seattle #scifi

Today I bought my daughter her first set of CDs at #EasyStreetRecords in #Seattle. On the way home she wanted to open them and it was hilarious teaching her how to break through the plastic with a car key.
We then remembered that my 2011 KIA Sorento actually has a CD player!
It’s the first time I’ve ever used it and holy hell it was glorious! Both of us were AMAZED at how much better the music sounded then when streaming via Apple CarPlay. Massive difference.

Any #seattle area folks have a recommendation for a queer-friendly psychiatrist or other provider who can do psych med management?
I've been leaning on Talkiatry for just over a year now, and while my initial experience was very good, I've switched providers twice in the last year. My latest provider is Fine™, but seems very checked out.
I'm at a point where my conditions and my med regimen are very stable; any changes at this point would be minor tweaks as needed. My PCP has specifically said she's not comfortable managing my psych meds, which is too bad, because she's amazing.

hello! my name is rachael. i am a trans woman trapped in a red state. i live with my disabled partner and two dogs. i was fired from my previous job for being trans. since then, i have diligently searched for new employment, but no one local wants to hire a trans person, and remote jobs are increasingly rare.
as i continue my job search, i need to maintain a roof over our heads. we need to continue to survive as i continue my efforts. as such, i am asking for help making rent as well as paying our utilities and other bills. this will allow us to stay safe as i try to navigate the professional world's rampant transphobia.
additionally, i am eager to hear of any job opportunities you may be able to refer me to. i have a decade of experience in software development, with my previous role of six years being a senior fullstack position that included project planning, management, and maintenance, as well as mentorship and client communication. i am open to any position, even entry-level, that is either remote or in seattle or indianapolis. i hope to relocate to seattle as soon as possible, but i will do what i need to survive.
our goal is $2500. i know, thats a lot. im trying my best to find employment. anything you can give would be wildly appreciated and help keep us safe.

if you want to give through another platform, send it to one of the many options @vantablack has listed in their profile. they are very kind and forward donations along to me.
thank you.

A #Seattle #space startup called #Interlune has struck a deal to send a helium-hunting camera to the #moon aboard Astrolab's FLIP rover, which is due for launch as soon as this year. It'll be the first off-Earth step in Interlune's plan to deliver lunar #helium3 to paying customers. https://www.geekwire.com/2025/interlune-astrolab-camera-moon-helium-3/

(update: rent is due tonight, anything you can do is appreciated)
