A colleague is stuck with a time bomb: the outlook account will close at the end of the month, and emails are only sync locally for the last 180 days.

But, the "File - Export" menu command is greyed out. The right-click and "forward" is also greyed out when selecting more than 3 or 4 emails.

Available is the account either online on a browser, or also on a MacOS desktop.

Is there any way to export all emails as an .mbox or as individual .eml files? Or to forward them all?

At the moment, all we could do is search month by month, select all for the month, and print to PDF. Generates ~50 MB PDF files without images and without attachments, but it's better than nothing.

@albertcardona I saw someone with the same problem here on mastodon. I believe it was at the TU Delft, and they had a recent policy change so that only the last 3 months are synced. They did find a solution to sync all, but now I'm trying to find the post...

@Joshua @albertcardona I believe that was me (although I'm only a guest at TU Delft 😉). Here's the post: https://mathstodon.xyz/@de_Jong_Tom/115824619457674466

Basically, use an email client (like Thunderbird) with DavMail as a proxy if needed.

Ah, I see you just beat me to it! 😄

@de_Jong_Tom @Joshua

You guys! Thanks so much. I made it work, using:

- Ubuntu 24.04
- davmail 6.2 from apt repos
- openjdk-11-jdk as the java (doesn't work with 8 or 21)
- using the O365Interactive option
- Thunderbird

Was the only way. The O365Manual wouldn't work, the browser wouldn't give me the URL with the auth code.

Success! All downloading now.

UPDATE: davmail needed a lot more RAM. Default is -Xmx512m, changed that to -Xmx20g and now it's smoothly downloading inboxes with hundreds of thousands of emails. Thankfully the logs are clear.
