Joint Statement by the Leaders of the Nordic-Baltic Eight
We - the leaders of the Nordic-Baltic Eight - spoke with President Zelenskyy today. We have from the outset of Russia's war of aggression stood by Ukraine's side and we will continue to do so. Our resolve comes from the fact that we know that this is not only about Ukrainian security, it is also about the wider security of Europe.
Ukraine has continuously shown that it is serious about peace. We commend President Zelenskyy for his efforts to steer Ukraine through these very challenging times. Ukraine remains ready to negotiate and, as stated by President Zelenskyy, is working on the document prepared by the US. Russia has so far not committed to a ceasefire or any steps leading to peace. Instead, Russia continues its brutal attacks against Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.
Solutions that respect Ukraine's sovereignty and that will bring Ukraine and Europe greater security and stability have our full support.
We will continue to arm Ukraine and strengthen Europe's defence to deter further Russian aggression. As long as Russia continues its war against Ukraine, we will also support strengthening sanctions and wider economic measures.
Finally, to the Ukrainian people: Your resolve, determination and courage has been truly admirable from the outset of the war. We want you to know that you are not alone and can count on our support.
