I briefly tried using Microsoft's news app when I worked there. 100% of the ads it showed me were for scams. I flagged this as a reputational risk, but was met with silence.
Until there's legal liability, I don't see this changing.
@david_chisnall @briankrebs Those rare times I'm forced to confront the web without uBlock Origin in place I'm appalled at what I see. So many transparent scams, it's unbelievable. About all I reliably read on the internet anymore is Mastodon, Wikipedia, and a few choice corners where humans still interact with other humans without the expectation of anyone trying to make a buck off a website.
