The account at https://troet.cafe/@m7moodfamily (@m7moodfamily@troet.cafe) is a scam. It’s got hundreds of posts even though it joined yesterday and it links to gaza-verified.org even though we have not verified it.

I’m also seeing copies of the account on troet.cafe and elsewhere. Be careful with any accounts that contain “moodfamily” in the name.

I reported it to troet.cafe yesterday but no action has yet been taken.

If there is a real Mahmoud family account please contact me and we’ll verify you.

If you’re the person running the scam accounts: stop! You are stealing from starving people in Gaza. Shame on you. Have you not an ounce of humanity?

Here's a feel-good story from New Zealand. A ‘‘little old lady from Southland’’ was ripped off by scammers in Croatia with a highly inflated 'taxi' fare. They ran her card for €1506 ($NZ2992) after a 10-minute cab ride.

Her perseverance let to an appearance on Croatian prime-time news, an official apology from the Ministry of Tourism and their Ministry of Transport has introduced new regulations for taxis, with fare caps and specialised licence plates.

And she got her money back.

I saw something disturbing this morning.
One of my clients showed me an email. They use Gmail for their emails (on their own domain) and download them locally.
The email officially came from their company president, giving the purchasing department orders to immediately pay an invoice of around €20,000 to a new supplier in the UK. It included all the details and had the invoice attached as a PDF.

The worrying part is that the style and tone of the writing were exactly like their president's. However, the sender's address, while using the correct name, was a generic Gmail account. This immediately raised a red flag for the purchasing department, and they didn't fall for it. It was also easy for them to check because the president was in their office at that very moment.

Looking at the sender's address, it would have been simple for anyone to figure out what was happening, but many people don't.
The accuracy with which they (likely using an LLM) recreated the president's writing style is truly concerning.

I hope nobody would be fooled by this.

I will never send an email asking anyone to sign into their accounts and provide a link to do so. I will never provide a link to the login page.

Oh here's a new #paypal #scam I just got. Comes from a real Paypal email address, with the checkmark and everything! It works by someone creating a developer account on Paypal, naming themselves "A payment of ... is approved, please contact ... if errors", then the account invites other email addresses to become developers. And their "name" gets prominently put into the email subject and body.

Not very clean but it gave me pause for a moment while I figured out "how the hell did they send this from an official paypal.com address???"

New scam is surfacing on Bluesky, which means it will arrive here soon.

It works by telling you they have information about someone impersonating you, but for thin bogus reasons, you need to contact them on Discord. This is a scam.
