One week to go until the New York City mayoral election and the media have spotted a "scandal." On Friday, Zohran Mamdani made a speech highlighting the Islamophobia Muslims faced in the city after the 9/11 attacks. The Democratic candidate mentioned an aunt who wore a hijab, who no longer felt safe taking the subway after September 11. The New York Post and Fox News quickly found Mamdani's aunt, who doesn't wear a head covering, and accused him of lying. Today, Mamdani explained to the media he was referring to his father's late cousin, who he called "aunt." Here's more from @thenewrepublic.
