GNOME & Firefox Consider Disabling Middle Click Paste By Default: "An X11'ism...Dumpster Fire"
Both the GNOME desktop and Mozilla Firefox browser projects are considering disabling middle-click-paste functionality by default...

Why would you want to disable one of the best practical features of #FreeDesktop, probably what people miss the most when they have to use something else? Please, #GNOME, stop making these mistakes.
We adopted the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard at Freedesktop! It's now part of the regular set of specifications, and we can make edits, of course.
Right now, it is very historically interesting, but hopefully it will be practical in future too and receive some modernization!
You can read the current HTML spec of FHS 3.0 at:

I maintain that we need a "fall guy" group in the Linux desktop space to fund, develop, and openly release stuff that would get the Internet mad at existing players, so they typically avoid doing them.
Keeping in mind the intent is to push things forward while not caring about peoples' gut reactions (because technology is more nuanced than a gut reaction!), this could include…
- The whole #Xlibre shitshow is based upon some asshole being yeeted for basically derailing the #FreeDesktop project.
I stumbled across this article while searching for informations about the future of some X11 window managers. probonopd created a good article about the differences between Wayland and X11 and the problems with Wayland (which perhaps could be fixed in the future)
Good to see that XLibre forked the X11 server so projects depending on X11 can go on further.
