Secret Corners: Hiding in Plain Sight

The Enchanted Forest. In the hidden corners of the world, sweet mysteries abound. NOTE: I created this piece quite a while ago, using a rubbing technique (a block of concrete) to get the texture of the tree bark. :-)

Almost hidden within a pile of maple leaves and tucked into the roots of a tree, stands a solitary, spiky haired creature of unknown origin. Arms outstretched, with a slight scowl on its face, it appears to be thinking of something important - perhaps what it would like to eat for lunch. Far back, lurking behind a tree, a young girl is watching. Drawn in black, white and gray graphite/pencil.

A cat stands very still, slyly glancing at the tip of its tail, where a hopeful fish has come for a nibble. On the tip of its tail grows a bit of tasty-looking vegetation. Its orange body has seaweed shaped patterns. From the top of the kitties head, branching flowers of green and orange blossom and sway, enticing the unwary to come closer.
