EU Leadership Faces Scrutiny Amid Gaza Crisis
Despite the escalation in violence and rising civilian casualties, the European Union’s top officials did not issue any public response over the weekend.

Just days earlier, on July 15, EU foreign ministers met in Brussels and declined to impose sanctions on "Israel" over its conduct in Gaza.

The EU’s High Representative, Kaja Kallas, acknowledged the deteriorating conditions, calling the human rights situation in Gaza "catastrophic."

"We don’t have a ceasefire, and that’s why it is so much harder to provide that aid," Kallas said, adding: "But we really need to work for that to help the people because we don’t know how far the ceasefire really is [from being agreed]."

Spotted hanging on top of the sign for the Everglades Concentration Camp

Anarchists in south Florida are deeply conflicted about how to fight against this. Indigenous elders have decided to side with conservatives rednecks who do NOT want to speak badly about ICE. They are also coordinating everything with tribal police, who in turn coordinate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. They keeping making statements about how their events are peaceful and “agitators” will not be welcome.

Miccosukee youth are not standing for it. They are organizing with an immigrants’ rights nonprofit from Imokolee, FL. While their rhetoric is much more intersectional, that is where our praise must end. They also coordinate with tribal police, who in turn coordinate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Nevertheless, there are hints of radicalism which can grow. There are some Miccosukee youth who do not approve of working with the police, let alone the FBI, ICE, and whomever else the tribal police are coordinating with.

This is undoubtedly a lesson for many anarchists in South Florida, who have not made significant efforts to be a part of indigenous communities’ organizing since the Save the Briger Forest efforts a decade ago. Be part of communities’ everyday struggles, such that when the empire comes to crush them, you are ready to fight side-by-side. We were not ready this time, but we are working on it.
