Glamour shot with the family laptops on Debian 13 release day. Not pictured: my 9-year old son and his otter, "Scottie Otter" who helped set up the table. We use KDE, Gnome, and swaywm depending on preferences and nobody makes a big deal out of it. #debian #thinkpad #trixie #screenshotsaturday #system76 #linux #kde #gnome #swaywm

Seven laptops placed on a folding table outside. It is late evening but still the sun shines. In the background is green, freshly cut grass. The seven laptops are: ThinkPad X1 Yoga; X280; P51; T14 Gen1; X395; T430 with Classic Keyboard and; System76 Galago Pro. They are all open and powered on, facing the observer. In each laptop is a terminal screen, showing that the 'fastfetch' command has been run. The fastfetch command shows that they are all running the latest Debian release, 13.0 "trixie" which went live today. Each laptop setup is slightly different and uses a different desktop environment, ranging from KDE Plasma, to Gnome, to swaywm. Today (August 9 2025) is the release date of Debian 13, codename "trixie."

I’m lining up episodes of The IT Guy Show covering X11 and Wayland — their quirks, legacy, and the future of the Linux desktop.

If you’ve worked with either (or both!), or just have strong real-world opinions on the state of display servers in Linux, I’d love to have you on.

Reach out or if you want, nominate someone awesome!

Still playing around with #OpenBSD on my Desktop PC and to be honest I thought I'd hate it but you know what ? It's actually kind of growing on me. Yes I know I can use #SwayWM with #Wayland but the #Xorg stuff is kind of nostalgically nice, A blast from the past. Also I'm not that worried if I break it as I can just reinstall and start again until I figure it out totally.
What are desktops / terminals and so on are you OpenBSD folk running on your setups ?
