With the discussions of how bot traffic is flooding websites, I was surprised to find that my CDN is "only" using 3.5 TB/mo, up 3x in 3 years.
Human traffic is probably down because I haven't been active for the last couple years, so maybe we can call that a 4x to 5x increase due to bots?
Maybe my site just isn't very appealing to bots, but from the way people talk, I was expecting a higher ratio. I would've guessed >= 100x from how people are talking; 10x would be nothing in terms of load.
@danluu Part of the problem is that some of these misbehaving bots are very bursty in their request patterns. The actual volume isn't too much, but they can make 50 requests in 1 second.
If you're serving a website off a database, this murders the connection pool.
Git hosts are also vulnerable to *any* sort of scraping since they have O(n^2) viable URLs, where n is # commits, and rendering anything other than HEAD is stupidly expensive. Running a crawler you have to actively avoid these.

L'automobilista ha cmq una capacità limitata (nel senso di "non infinita") di controllare quello che succede intorno a lui. Le regole, incluse quelle per le strisce, dovrebbero servire *anche* a non dover gestire una casistica infinita di imprevisti in aggiunta ai comportamenti conformi alle regole.
