Lazy morning. Coffee and read the second and final Monk and Robot book.
@concretedog sounds *perfect*

💸💸 Harvest price hike hits business with 1500% increase in bills
「 Harvest was acquired by the Italian tech company Bending Spoons in 2025, and changed its pricing structure the following year.
Many businesses who pay annually are only now finding out about the increase, as their payment is now coming up for renewal 」
@jbz yes, I was just reading that as “harvest this”, “harvest that” ahhhh, bending spoons, yes of course it is.
Lazy morning. Coffee and read the second and final Monk and Robot book.
Flying is a feedback loop.
It doesn’t have a future.
And doing it shortens that timeline.
Trouble is, its cultural effect is far more extensive than its material effect, and that significantly shortens the shortening.
But the double double trouble is that the future it beckons – the one where flying cannot exist – is the same one in which the prospects for living contract and lives themselves become shorter.
Seems like a bad idea to me
…so when a story like this lands in my timeline, I’m like “AI is bullshit but there is a much *bigger* and longer running bullshit here. Let’s not ignore that.”
I agree with this comment, 100%.
"North Korea is a fantastic barometer for determining if someone is a real leftist or just a lib LARPing as one."
As I've researched the history of Japanese and American imperialism and 19th and 20th century Korean history without American propaganda bias...
Plus I've seen recent photos and videos of Pyongyang... DPRK has really boomed economically in recent years. And unlike economic booms in the capitalist west decades ago, the DPRK's actually benefits all the people there. Not an exploitative elite hoarding the wealth.
In the Korean War, which never officially ended, the DPRK are the good guys. And saying that probably has me on all kinds of watch lists. I don't care.
Capitalist colonialist Canada was happy for me to die, rotting in a gutter when I was a deeply poor, neurodivergent young woman, my upper middle class sociopathic biomom refusing to support me. In 2003, I tried suicide because I was so poor. And the Canadian state tortured me in response. Now I'm doing better *despite* capitalism. But while my livelihood is now threatened by the horrors of Gen AI, the MAID program is being used to kill desperate impoverished Ontarians. Whereas I was tortured in a psych ward for trying to kill myself as an escap from poverty twenty three years ago.
It took me many years to undo the western capitalist brainwashing. But I realized that there's no good reason to be "proud" to be Canadian, a state founded by genociding Indigenous people. An evil that continues today.
This man is right.

@kimcrawley this man is utterly deluded about the state of living for most people in the DPRK.
As it's difficult to get trusted 1st hand info out of the country (no free press!) we rely on 3rd party resources. This is not a Communist Utopia, it is one of the world's most brutal dictatorships, and a poster child for an "exploititative elite hoarding wealth" https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2026-north-korea-windfall/ after selling weapons & soldiers to Russia for use in Ukraine.
- death penalty used for political control and opression
- no freedom of movement
- no freedom of communication
- ~42% of North Koreans are starving
- per-capita income is ~ USD$1,246
- family political loyalty controls access to housing, food, and jobs
- Freedom House scores North Korea 0/40 on political rights; <1% of citizens have open internet access

Change my mind here, but this doesn't look better overall than almost anywhere in the world, barring places in extreme famine. I'd expect daily life in Ukraine to be significantly better than in DPRK.
TIL about @mosscap / #Amiko, a human friendly fork of Ruby on Rails, in response to DHH's politics.
I'm actually learning a bit of Ruby atm to understand OpenProject's back-end code a bit better.
(And yes, I live under a rock)
reseeding because the crypto module refuses to give you more randomness unless you give it whatever bullshit you can find is a great way to get adversarial randomness
Note that a DRBG does not rely on a personalization string to provide entropy, even though entropy could be provided in the personalization string, and knowledge of the personalization string by an adversary does not degrade the security strength of a DRBG instantiation, as long as the entropy input is unknown.
"as long as the entropy input is unknown" oh my god
When used within a cryptographic module, a personalization string is not considered to be a critical security parameter.

The one big advantage of starting a series of train journeys from Barcelona Satan station: any other stations I use on my journey will be nicer...
@quixoticgeek You realise that trains from Sants go to Paris Gare de Lyon, right?
@bcantrill explained how software is reflection of values with some examples:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhx970_JKX4
What is your fork about? What values are different to the original one?
@saper I will watch it in full later, but from a quick skim that seems to mostly focus on technical values; which is fair, but not our focus. The values we hope to reflect are around inclusion, good governance, and not tolerating those who would exclude people based on who they are.

@jwz @zzt @becomethewaifu I am awaiting a cheap-ish pair of KZ bluetooth IEMs with noise cancelation. Will see how they work as Airpods Pro replacements for walking-about music ...

“Viviamo in un mondo ferito da molti conflitti, in cui con preoccupazione si vedono aumentare violenze, chiusure, paura dell’altro”.

There is visual content, some of it beautiful. But that's just the wallpaper. The full journey folds all the senses into the one unique moment existing right then, then resets them for the next.
(3/?)
As far as tripping scenes go, the one in The Man in the High Castle is pretty good. It focuses on the disorientation that comes with any journey to a new and radically different place. The way background objects becoming richly meaningful symbols, then dissolve into the next moment.
But as with the original comic of V for Vendetta, it isn't just there for shock value. It serves as a narrative bridge to important aspects of the story. A number of them, I suspect.
