in case you missed it, some ex-Apple ex-Nest ex-<some bullshit AI startup> guy decided to reply to my thread about having your LLM do brainfuck with their blog post where they had claude do a json parser in brainfuck, “something that’s never been done before”

it’s the same program except this one was written by a person in 2018 and it doesn’t look like absolute shit. in fact it has a lot of comments, unlike the slop one.

wait, so if I already need to know what file was modified, what kinda forensic info does your ideal directory hashing scheme give me over the existing ones?
@wolf480pl @SRAZKVT it allows you to compute a minimal diff over the checksum tree. it's also much faster to compute and highly parallelizable, but even forgoing that there's no way at all to avoid recomputing from the entire plaintext directory contents in the standard "merkle tree" model, which is why it can be a way to hide changes

I did use Seafile for awhile, but it stopped working for reasons I never figured out. Also couldn't handle big video files.
