We talk a lot about "privacy based browsers," but we need more talk about Engine Diversity.
Using a chromium-based browser even a de-Googled one like ungoogled chromium or Vivaldi still cements Google's control over web standards.
If Firefox (gecko) dies, the web effectively becomes a proprietary app platform owned by an ad company.
I stick with Firefox not because it's always faster (it isn't), but because it's the only vote I have left against a monoculture.
Are you riding the gecko train for ideological reasons or has it actually become the better daily driver for you?

How to add DuckDuckGo (noai) to Google Chrome and Brave
(Also, see my similar post about doing this for Vivaldi - https://infosec.exchange/@scottwilson/115725021729571844, and for Firefox - https://infosec.exchange/@scottwilson/115725250696632578)
If you prefer an AI-free DuckDuckGo Search experience, you can use noai.duckduckgo.com instead of on duckduckgo.com. Searching on noai.duckduckgo.com works the same as search on duckduckgo.com, except all AI features are turned off and AI-generated images are filtered out of results by default.
NOTE: Truly, for better privacy, consider switching to Firefox, LibreWolf, Vivaldi, Brave, or Tor.
1. In Google Chrome or Brave, go to Settings, then Search Engines.
2. Click "Manage search engines and site search".
3. Scroll down to the "Site search" section, and lick the "Add" button.
4. Give it a meaningful name and nickname, and add "https://noai.duckduckgo.com/search?q=%25s" in the URL field.
5. Click "Add", then scroll up a little to the "Search engines" section. Find your new entry, click the three dots next to it, and select "Default" to make this the default search engine.
6. Exit Settings.

»8 Million Users' AI Conversations Sold for Profit by "Privacy" Extensions«
WTF?! Now don't tell me that this surprises you. Why do so many people still naively think to keep their privacy over VPN's for data-hungry big corporations?

Chrome now wants to store and autofill your driver’s license and other ID info.
From a cybersecurity perspective, that is a hard no from me. Info-stealer malware already targets browser autofill, and you cannot rotate a driver’s license number like a password. Putting high value IDs in the most targeted consumer app on the planet is a bad trade for a little convenience.
I wrote up why this feature is such a risky idea and what I recommend instead:

@servo launch sponsorship tiers to help fund more rapid development:
https://www.phoronix.com/news/Servo-Sponsorship-Tiers
IMO Servo is still our best chance at a fast, modern alternative to Chrome's Blink renderer taking over the web.
Tiers start at as little as $100, but if you don't have that to spare, consider sharing to try and reach potential sponsors who do!
