@bob *and* for religion
It has long since stopped being surprising; but it remains striking how a group of mostly self-professed atheists have reinvented very specific Christian ideas.

Because the unspoken but accepted fact is that the right is and has always been racist, antisemitic, misogynist and anti-LGBTQ
And no one even bothers to deny it or hide it anymore
@Remittancegirl Errm... do you mean unspoken by them? Because there are plenty of people saying it *about* them.
We just released Bonfire Social 1.0.3 🔥
Blog post with all the details: bonfirenetworks.org/posts/bo...
It comes with dozens of bug fixes and UX improvements, plus:
#CalmEmpowerment: a new design pattern that starts with a few sensible defaults, offers a middle layer of common adjustments, and reveals the full options only when you need them. Boundaries and post permissions got this treatment first, more to follow...
Modular community rules: a first step in bringing research and co-design with students and researchers at @hci@micro.blogs.princeton.edu into Bonfire, so governance becomes something communities can better define and share, and that others can fork and adapt.
If you think about it, it’s in the national interest for Apple to work with Intel to develop at least some capacity for silicon production outside of Taiwan. It’s also in Apple’s interest, as its continued growth means it needs more and more chips to put inside an ever-expanding product catalog.

There's a particular variety of "election integrity activist" whose "work" consists mostly of (inaccurately) explaining security problems back to the people who discovered them, and then scolding them for not being more frantic.
These people are as rewarding to deal with as you might imagine.
For the record: Yes, there are problems with US election security. Fortunately, it's improving, but there are still problems. Recent techniques, such as Risk-Limiting Audits, addresses many of them, and we should work to expand their routine use. That said, no, there's no credible evidence to date of actual hacked elections.
I'll be honest Kim - I'll be fine about it tomorrow. It would be incredibly useful if I had any fixed points I could anchor myself to but it's a roller coaster. Today it's spice blooming and people who are happy, who knows what it'll be tomorrow. Onions and the Illuminati? Waterparks and tungsten filaments? 12th century China and balloons? Literally no one knows. It's like I've got a monkey sat inside my head just pulling away at one of those old style slot machines with infinite wheels. Dingdingding you're a winner! Today you will be mad about...... origami!
@TheBreadmonkey This is so amazing!
@Natouille et pourtant c’est le chat le plus adorable que j’ai jamais eu.
@nicosomb chouette. Parce que ici, c'est pas vraiment le cas 😅
@Emily oo I wanted to attend but couldn't. Was it good? I'd like to hear them both.

Can you fix the "kill" in the alt text. Censuring is problematic
Yes.

@atpfm I can't believe no one mentioned how *terrible* text entry and manipulation is in Apple's Terminal app!
You can't click to move the cursor (option-click is ridiculous)
You can't cut or replace selected text
Holding shift and using arrow keys to try to select text just inserts key codes like ;2D
Command left/right doesn't go to the start/end of the line
It's so bad! These are basic computer text entry features from 30+ years ago.
@allanjackson I didn’t have those things in my first experiences with Unix, so I don’t crave them now! I don’t even want them! (I’ve had them in fancier terminal apps, and I have not preferred it.) Finally, being old pays off!
@Athena topic locked because discussions got too heated.
You don't say. The degree of ignorance behind that "moderation" [cough] dictat is quite something and brings the whole project and the language itself into disrepute.
The only person who deserves a ban for this is the one who wrote that and those who stood by.
#LLMs can cause harm to humans and it mustn't be discussed in relation to #Rustlang #LLM policy. What tripe.
tell me you’re a coward without telling me
No comment on this PR may mention the following topics:
Long-term social or economic impact of LLMs
The environmental impact of LLMs
Anything to do with the copyright status of LLM output
Moral judgements about people who use LLMs
We have asked the moderation team to help us enforce these rules.

Are you a fan of libraries, a designer and you live in #Boston ?
BPL are hosting a contest to design their new library card: https://www.bpl.org/boston-public-library-card-design-contest/
Would be cool if the final design was done in Inkscape 😉
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
