This is so fucked up. Trans rights are human rights. NYU hasn't said yet if it will challenge the demand. https://news.bloomberglaw.com/health-law-and-business/doj-targets-nyu-with-criminal-subpoena-for-trans-health-records

We got Haotian AI, the Chinese-language deepfake software powering scams. We also talk about a man finding $1 million of Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and how the AI hard drive shortage is impacting internet archiving.

From the archives: To open up this CSS Fundamentals series, we’re looking at one of those most important aspects of CSS to understand: how the box model is affected by box sizing.

(…) ”generates massive amounts of code, leaving me with 1000+ lines of pull requests to review and it takes massive amounts of time to do this. This leads to me feeling more tired and burned out than I've ever felt in my entire life. The cognitive overhead of switching between prompting, coding, checking the #LLM's output is a massive energy drain. It has not been a productivity booster at all, it feels like a speedrun towards severe mental exhaustion."

@th try now.
Ahh, the boiled egg that is Luke Akehurst is behind this shitshow? Anything but listen to the voters and run the country, yeah?

The reason why so many security products ubiquitously suck nowadays is that the people, who spend their entire days in meetings, making decisions about them have completely lost touch with the operational reality of their users. The closest they get to the product is screen sharing on Teams. If they had to use the products, that they make decisions about for a week, so many problems would disappear.
"Generative AI is unsettling longstanding conventions of authorship, ownership and credit in academia and across cultural production. This has prompted responses that seek to reassert the role of the intelligent, creative human individual. Arguing that notions such as “100% human authored” are untenable, Gary Hall, together with COPODE, proposes an alternative: a campaign for creative work that is “100% inhuman made”."

@catsalad reminds me of bad 3-D postcards of JAAYYYYYYYZZZUSSSS sent to me by the late mother of a long-ago girlfriend.
it's fascinating how good AI is at solving problems in domains i don't understand. it's almost as if it was somehow linked to my inability to verify the output.
I am working really hard on something Spritely related in Blender and I'm doing a bunch of hand drawn artwork and animation and like, sometimes I wonder, do people care anymore? Is it really so impressive to do animation when people can just pump out a slop animation like it's nothing? It's so much work to do this kind of thing
But I know I like it and I care when I see artwork where people have put in time and effort
I hope people will feel the same
It's also weird and goofy and sometimes releasing artwork I feel really vulnerable about it, people make fun of you sometimes, and it is goofy, it *is* goofy and kind of leans into the cute character'y stuff that we have done at @spritely historically.
When you put in the work, it's easy to worry about all the ways people will dismiss it. But that's still the kind of stuff that matters to me, even if I feel vulnerable about releasing my art every time I do it
@cwebber SInce I'm doing X-ray physics, the optical axis obviously is along +x – hence +z points upwards, and the right hand then makes +y pointing horizontally to the left.
There is a surprising amount of #Bible fanfiction in German folklore.
My favorite example of this is the story that Pontius Pilate was originally from northern Bavaria, where he built a beautiful city that ultimately sank beneath the ground...

1939: When 20,000 Americans Held a #ProNazi Rally in #MadisonSquareGarden
in History | October 27th, 2024
"Two-time Academy Award nominee Marshall Curry presents A Night at The Garden, a film that revisits a night in February 1939 when '20,000 Americans rallied in New York’s Madison Square Garden to celebrate the rise of Nazism — an event largely forgotten from U.S. history.' As we described it back in 2017, the film documents the following scene:
"What you’re looking at is the 1939 'Pro-American Rally' (aka Pro-Nazi Rally) sponsored by the German American Bund at Madison Square Garden on George Washington’s 207th Birthday. Banners emblazoned with such slogans as 'Stop Jewish Domination of Christian Americans,” 'Wake Up America. Smash Jewish Communism,' and '1,000,000 Bund Members by 1940' decorated the great hall.
"New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia—an Episcopalian with a Jewish mother—considered canceling the event, but ultimately he, along with the American Jewish Committee and the American Civil Liberties Committee [#ACLU] decreed that the Bund was exercising its right to free speech and free assembly.
"A crowd of 20,000 filled the famous sports venue in mid-town Manhattan to capacity. 1,500 police officers were present to render the Garden 'a fortress impregnable to anti-Nazis.” An estimated 100,000 counter-demonstrators were gathering outside.…'"
