The might and power of (often corript) mainstreamand social media, backed by big money, was overcome by real people, who really care, spreading the message of HOPE

In an emotional victory speech, Spencer – who becomes the fifth Green party MP – said people were being “bled dry”.

She said: “Instead of working for a nice life, we’re working to line the pockets of billionaires. We’re being bled dry. And I don’t think it’s extreme or radical to think that working hard should get you a nice life”.

Spencer emphasised community solidarity and said she would call out politicians “who constantly scapegoat and blame our communities for all the problems in society. My Muslim friends and neighbours are just like me – human.”

As a woman working in #retrofit , I am delighted that the #Greens chose Hannah Spencer, a local plumber to be their candidate in the #gortonanddenton byelection.

She gets it in a way other politicians just don’t.

“One in three households in Gorton and Denton live in fuel poverty. Insulating homes would keep people warm in winter, cool in summer and slash bills. We’ve got some of the leakiest homes in Europe – as I know full well from working on hundreds of them.”

“We moved a vote which will now see the R2 and R3 reinstated out towards Kippax, Spence and Fraser and the R4 and R5 frequencies improved.
