@nik @phildini @baconandcoconut @chrisjrn
On a nice evening community bike ride and so so pleased to see the scheming that's been happening here 😁
@robin @phildini @baconandcoconut @chrisjrn I will also consider cycling to the ranch provided I’m not the only one making questionable decisions. 😂
@RosaCtrl in a more practical sense, malice can be ruled out. "incompetence" is thought-terminating and not actually disprovable. it is the absence of an explanation
I'm a little chagrined that I forgot that Bandcamp Friday was during a national economic strike, and I'm honestly grateful that the community mostly ignored this post.
maybe next time
@jvw I think it excludes independent artists :)

@idlestate @redoak y’all are a couple a gooves.
@pertho FreeBSD I have yes. The tricky bits come down to ease of use on the hypervisor. More so most or all of the guests themselves would need to be GNU/Linux due to going with official deploys for the services they host. I would also need to do the pre-training (Tunnel) on a *BSD also, to get people in the zone.
One for the future. Would be great. Just raises the entry barrier a little, maybe making for longer sessions.
@JulianOliver @pertho This would be neat - I keep a FreeBSD host at home and I get the occasional temptation to rebuild with jails and full ZFS. Still <3 debian though.

Maintaining these old machines that run critical local services is such a noble effort. Many quiet craftspeople is a much more wonderful world to live in than one glossy inhuman cloud
@jonny One of the things I appreciate most about my job is that I feel I get to work with computers and information technology in a way that is genuinely beneficial for my community and society.
There's a lot of tech roles these days in which it may be really cool to work on cutting edge tech, but I wouldn't feel like I was making positive contributions.
Even in small ways like giving an old server some more life, I'm very grateful that I have the opportunity to contribute in the ways that I do.
I'm so excited for this next year on the #Fediverse.
And the more I learn, the more I think #BridgyFed is going to become a foundational part of our network.
I just posted my first messages from #Emissary across Bridgy to my account on BlueSky.
I still have some things to fix (on my end, not theirs) but it worked.
IT WORKED.
NGL, I feel a little like Morpheus right now. And just think of what it will mean for every account set up on #Bandwagon...
I truly love Mastodon, but there is one thing I simply cannot fathom:
If I create a post with a video, I can share a video with 30 images every second, potentially containing thousands of images.
But if I create a post with regular images, I am limited to four images in a post.
But why? 🤷🏻♂️
@randahl
Are you allowed to upload the video to the Mastodon host? Or do you need to host it elsewhere?
I just feel like having to participate in a discourse where I am expected to both understand, and take seriously the phrase "Biden abortion cartel" is an unreasonable demand on my personhood.
Elon Musk's 7 biggest stumbles on the stand at OpenAI trial
Elon Musk spent three days testifying as the first witness in his trial against OpenAI.

@arstechnica Musk can’t help but lie. He’s pathological like Trump.
Actually, the plural is goovesball

"It's here to stay" is the argument of AI apologists who don't want to contend with the legitimate criticisms.
Microplastics are here to stay as well, but I don't see you downing a bowl of frosted, shredded polyester every morning.
It's the weekend, baby
Everyday I’m feeling more and more like AI is being shoved down our throats. I never felt this way about PCs, the Internet or smartphones. But AI hits different. The growth isn’t organic. The rich and powerful seem almost desperate to grow it regardless of what people think of it.
@jasohill yep - have you seen how much money they've ploughed into it? it's at too big to fail proportions now
