I can see a near future where data centres get retrofitted to be vertical farms. They have climate control, temperature and water, and if these weather conditions continue, food will become more profitable than AI tokens

@kirschner I saw embedded device which stopped working because of flash memory corrupted. the reason for this small flash memory corruption was attempt to reload wifi driver in offline (there is a series of unfortunate events here, which deserves a long story after NDA expiration) and the only cure was to bring it online and update which wasn't possible because of small flash memory corruption.

I don’t generally yell at people using AI, but if you have any power over the hiring process at your company and you are asking candidates to talk to an AI screener, you are a creep, and thoroughly unqualified to make any decisions about hiring.

It has been almost thirty years since I read this, but I think it was the first and second story in The Man Who Sold the Moon (might have been another book though).

The first story had the crystal panels that could be tuned to generate energy for particular wavelengths. Tuning them to visible light meant that you could generate energy from sunlight and the protagonists were able to undermine existing power companies and sell electricity-creation machines. The second story had them realise that you could also tune them to x-rays and gamma rays and so you could build simple nuclear power plants (nuclear decay or fission could generate electricity directly in the same way).

Once I read his second book involving a character who built a time machine so that he could go back in time and have sex with his mother, with a major subplot of how cool Eugenics is, I found it hard to go back to Heinlein.
