They disinvented the VCR. You might think that the reason we don't have VCRs anymore is because VCRs were supplanted by DVDs, PVRs and streaming, but that's not the case. They had it in for the VCR from the very start, and they never stopped trying to kill it. Eventually, they succeeded.

there are two mistakes everyone working with C/C++ makes constantly:

1) shipping debug builds when you meant to ship production builds

2) writing load-bearing data validation into debug asserts and then successfully shipping a production build

I picked up this twig with a mushroom growing on it today, and some guy coming along the trail said, "That is awesome! Is there a smaller one next to it, too?" I looked closer and saw the smaller one. I hadn't noticed it in my own hand, and this guy had spotted it from 3-4 meters away. He must be a good hiking companion. @Lady I mean I definitely don't want to minimize what librarianing is -- I definitely know it's a lot, a lot more than any sort of book-shepherding or even really book-centric stuff, compared to the database-knowledge and -curation, service-knowledge and -curation, connections to digital, physical, or expert resources, space-provision, etc. that is so much more of what institutional libraries (public and private) are.
So I didn't bring those up to be a comparison to actual librarianing, but to what a fan-community might want out of their archive. (The person minding our shul library doesn't call themself a librarian, and I don't think anyone with that role with the bookshelves-in-a-room would have called themselves a librarian outside of the specific "job within group" title relevant to that book collection.)

(Altho for what it's worth both the booksheves-in-a-room and the shul library do/did acquisitions and cataloging. Still not (or at least a barest fraction of) Librarianing, but.)
