Social media creates the illusion of ultimate free speech. You can post anything! And if what you say is popular it will spread far and wide. It seems like a free market place of ideas.

But in some ways it's a bit more like a newspaper: a collection of information filtered by and editorial board. This can vary a great deal by topic and by platform.

The claim the social media was free and open ended when "timelines" or the selection of posts that users see were subjected to an algorithm.

I am not anti litmus test but they are sharp knives, one needs to be careful. I have two that I care for.

1. Trans rights. Any Democrat suggesting that we moderate our support for trans rights. Rahm Emanuel can go to hell.

2. Criticized student protests. Josh Shapiro can go to hell.

I just signed up for a free email account from @Tutanota . I had been concerned that the web-app-on-android experience wouldn't be good. A lot of webapps, when you try to access them on android, just bug you to get the android app.

Not so with Tuta! The android web experience seems to be something they put a lot of work into! It has all the functionality, as far as I can tell, and I actually like it better than the desktop experience!
