Desperate Establishment Democrats Try to Tie Abdul El-Sayed to Graham Platner Sarah Hays, a former Biden White House official, stooped to a new low in her attacks on the socialist left by implying Michigan Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed may have skeletons in his closet as bad as Graham Platner. Neera Tanden made the same implication shortly after Hays. But they’re not alone in their desire to stop the leftist takeover of the country #CorporateDemocrats

Communities will build trust and loyalty for local public media. Chicago Public Media is taking a big leap forward.
Wondering if the fediverse - and Mastodon in particular - is undergoing a major spam / bot signup wave at the moment.
I'm noticing an uptick in people following me who have weird usernames (lots of numbers), no profile photo, and 0 followers - I'd say 90% of new followers from the past week or two. (Disclaimer: I don't like the word "follower", it sounds cultish)
What gives?
Treasuring the human connections I've made here and this is a bit unsettling TBH.
I may turn on manual approvals 🥲
Remember kids.

Sure my servants like to use my bed, but they're warm so I allow it.
Drought in our area is becoming incredibly heavy. Many gardens have given up. But we're still watering because what we grow us not just crops but hope for those in need. It's a tiring and hard work but every green leaf standing against drought is proof that we don't have to wait for rain to chose hope. Thanks to everyone that supports us in this journey.

From a metallurgist's viewpoint he's right, but he's completely discounted the possibility of non-metallurgical approaches to making a VNM, Such as using synthetic biology to bootstrap replication.
@cstross Dyson Trees FTW!
Would like to see people operate a closed ecosystem supporting humans in a benign ecosystem, such as Antarctica, before colonizing Mars etc. (but we can fire Dilbert Stark there on a lithobraking trajectory first, just to test things out).
With a total eclipse coming up next month, I wondered: do other planets have total eclipses too? So I did the math… and the answer is, surprisingly, yes! But ours are still way cooler.

@badastro Hi Phil. Long time reader, first time tooter. Try adding these hashtags to your posts: #astrodon #astronomy #astrophysics #space #science
I retooted your post about the Vera Rubin Observatory using those hashtags which are some of the active and relevant hashtags I found. That post did well, bit I can't claim it was my retoot with hashtags that did it unless we repeat the experiment until 5 sigma. 😉
I designed a shirt you might find useful from time to time.

I bet that costs extra.
To maximize support for different ui paradigms without complicating the protocol e.g. if the compositor wants to render the window as a rotating cube, or in 5 different places then the compositor can do so without having to define some complex protocol to inform the client of where is might be.
To put another way: in Wayland the idea of clients having a global unique "position" isn't assumed to be a meaningful statement.
Language disparities are just one of several concerns as automated moderation becomes more widespread. The varied examples we share here demonstrate the risks of over reliance on automated moderation—and the need for stronger safeguards. https://eff.org/deeplinks/2026/07/part-2-automated-moderation-here-stay-accountability-must-keep-pace
@eff
infosec.exchange does not automate moderation, all reports are handled by humans with love 😌
New, by me: A federal court has jailed a Florida man for helping a notorious ransomware gang extort U.S. companies while working for a cyber company as a *ransomware negotiator*. He's the third security person to be jailed for this (batshit) extortion scheme.

The ransomware individual didn’t have the right Floridianconnections
