From a metallurgist's viewpoint he's right, but he's completely discounted the possibility of non-metallurgical approaches to making a VNM, Such as using synthetic biology to bootstrap replication.

Would like to see people operate a closed ecosystem supporting humans in a benign ecosystem, such as Antarctica, before colonizing Mars etc. (but we can fire Dilbert Stark there on a lithobraking trajectory first, just to test things out).
